Is The Double Wu Wang in the Northeast this November Fatal?

Published Nobyembre 3, 2016 by jptan2012

My article about the double #5 Flying Star (also called as Five Yellow Star or 5 – Yellow Star) or better known as Wu Wang this coming November was already posted as early as October 20, 2016, this is to give my readers enough time to prepare for the double Wu Wang whammy that will land on the Northeast. This means that everybody who is in the Northeast side of their house, office, room, or everybody whose house faces Northeast, or everybody whose house or office building faces the Northeast are greatly affected.

But more than that all people born in the year of the Ox or Tiger, or every middle born son, whether married or single, whether young or old, as long as you are middle born are affected.

The question now is whether it is fatal. I was bombarded with this question by a number of my readers because according to them Lillian Too on her website wrote that this star is fatal. I was looking for this reference but I was unable to see it, but I did see that she mentioned that one could get into a serious illness or serious accident.

Lillian Too is the world’s most famous Feng Shui expert and teacher. And obviously if she says something we should all take note of it and listen to what she has to say. Now the second question is do I agree that it can cause serious illness and accidents or as some readers asks whether it can be fatal.

To answer that allows me to explain it a little. Wu Wang or the Five Yellow Star or #5 Flying Star on it’s own is the most dreaded star. This star coupled with bad karma can be fatal, and so yes, it can be fatal.

When I first wrote the article, I didn’t want to cause some panic and was cautious to put in strong words, although I felt I already gave fair warning and had couldn’t stress enough how much caution all those who are affected has to take about this double whammy of Wu Wang(s) where the Monthly #5 Flying Star join forces with Annual #5 Flying Star on the Northeast.

I have written about the Wu Wang so many times already and every year I write about it that I will not go into details about it anymore. But needless to say, it is the most dreaded star that can cause so much misfortune. It can cause a lot of problems.

However, what I want to stress now is that yes it can be fatal, but fatal here may refer to not only death by illness or accidents but also fatal business wise or relationship wise. So everybody mentioned above should take extra precaution.

Furthermore, and it is important for all of you to take note of this, people born in the year of the Ox and Tiger, and middle sons (regardless whether you’re already 100 years old and lives in a different house already) who stays in the Northeast or whose house doors or office doors are in the Northeast are doubly affected. Why? Because the ruling sector of people born in the year of the Ox and Tiger, and middle sons is in the Northeast! This means you double the already doubled Wu Wang!

And wait, don’t forget that the ruling #2 Flying Star which is also known as the Illness Star, a star that causes not only illness but also grave accidents is doubled, and while everybody is affected, those who are already affected by the Wu Wang (those people mentioned above) are also more susceptible to this star because your overall energy is already weakened by the Wu Wang or 5 – Yellow Star.

Please read my earlier post – DOUBLE WU WANG WHAMMY FOR PEOPLE BORN IN THE YEAR OF THE OX AND TIGER THIS COMING NOVEMBER! – to understand more about it and also to ensure that you are familiar on how you can get protected.

Nevertheless, what I want to stress in this particular post, especially those who are doubly affected by the double Wu Wang whammy is that aside from protecting yourself with the cures I mentioned like the Vajrapani Ruel, gold Kalachakra pendant, gold Five Element pagoda pendant, 5 – Element Pagoda for the Northeast sectors, the Illness Suppression Amulet, the Traditional Sutra Amulet, AND YOU SHOULD ARM YOURSELF WITH THESE CURES, is that you wear more metal on your body. Wear more jewelries and for the month of November wear more white. But there’s one thing I would like to stress, this is also the time wherein you must have faith in the power of Sutras and Mantras, so recite some sutras and chant some mantras. If you’re a Christian then pray and believe in your God. Have faith! Having said that, you should go to church or temple more often. Go everyday if possible, genuinely and generously give more to those who are in need. These things should help protect you.

NOTE: Fire strengthens the Earth energy of the Wu Wang and Illness Star so avoid wearing very bright fire colors like red, violet, orange, and pink. So lighting candles inside the house or office is not also advisable, but lighting incense and candles in the temple or church is going to be helpful. In the same manner, yellow is an earth color so try to avoid this as well.

The Many Benefits of A Sutra: How A Sutra Is Also Used As An Amulet! (A Special Recite – A – Sutra Article)

Published Oktubre 13, 2016 by jptan2012

In my series, Recite – A – Sutra, I have talked about the different wonderful benefits or blessings one gets when one recites – a – sutra. By reciting these sutras loudly, one invokes the wonderful energies of the many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and because of this one receives a lot of wonderful blessings and good chi.

However, if you have read some of the sutras that I mentioned, especially “THE SUTRA ON THE ORIGINAL VOWS AND MERITS OF THE MEDICINE MASTER LAPIS LAZULI LIGHT TATHAGATHA” (better known as the Medicine Buddha Sutra) or “THE DIAMOND OF PERFECT WISDOM SUTRA”, (also called “The Vajra Cutter Perfection of Wisdom Sutra” or “The Vajra Sutra” or “The Vajra Cutter Sutra” or “The Diamond Sutra“) or “THE SOVEREIGN KING OF SUTRA, THE SUBLIME GOLDEN LIGHT” (also known as “Suvarnaprabhāsa Sutra” or “The King of Glorious Sutra” or “The Sutra of Golden Light” or “The Golden Light Sutra”), you would have known by now that simply having these sutras will shower upon the holder or owner of the copy of the sutra tremendous amounts of blessings and most importantly protection. In that sense, a sutra is already an amulet, however, to some extent it is much more than simply being an amulet.

It is in the same principle that I’m a big advocate of wearing Kuan Yin with The Heart Sutra Pendant.

medicine-buddha-sutra-amulet-and-medicine-buddha-lamp-amulet

This is a small Medicine Buddha Sutra Amulet and a Medicine Buddha Lamp Amulet. I shall be writing about the Medicine Buddha Lamp Amulet soon.

Now each Sutra are the same that they offer protection and some blessings, but each sutra might also differ from the other. For example, THE SUTRA ON THE ORIGINAL VOWS AND MERITS OF THE MEDICINE MASTER LAPIS LAZULI LIGHT TATHAGATHA brings with it a blessing of protection, healing, good health, and wealth. So simply having a copy of the said sutra will give you all the wonderful blessings that I just mentioned.

THE DIAMOND OF PERFECT WISDOM SUTRA brings protection and different kind of auspiciousness and wealth luck. In fact, it is considered as one of the most powerful sutra to have with you.

THE GOLDEN LIGHT SUTRA is also very powerful protective sutra amulet, especially if you are in a managerial or leadership situation.

Again, all sutras have a protective blessing but each one differs in the other aspects of the blessings that they bestow to a person or owner. But everyone agrees that having a copy of the said sutra especially if it is printed a ‘traditional’ sutra manner carries with it some powerful energies, that is why a lot of Buddhist carries small sutra amulets and if they can get hold of it, they put traditional sutra amulets at home.

diamond-sutra2

This is a copy of the big and small THE DIAMOND OF PERFECT WISDOM SUTRA (traditional sutra amulet and sutra amulet) that my Guru Lama sent me. They are quite limited. I only have 10 of the big ones, and 7 of the small ones.

Allow me to share with you the story of Chuan Biao, a Filipino – Chinese who was born in China and who migrated here to the Philippines. At a very young age, just when the communist are about to take over China, Chuan Biao’s father had the foresight to leave and escape China and come to the Philippines. Chuan Biao was only about a year old then so he doesn’t have much memory of what happened. His father soon became a businessman here, and he was often told by his father that Feng Shui plays a big role in the success of his business.

Chuan Biao didn’t finish school, he didn’t even took up even just a year of college, but being the eldest son, he was trained by his father really well to handle their business, and soon Chuan Biao was handling their business and when his father passed away when Chuan Biao was only 30 years of age, he was prepared enough to handle and take over their business. Chuan Biao was also married by then, and aside from his own family; he took care of his mother, two sisters and younger brother.

After a while, his siblings also got married also, business was doing well, and he has expanded to other business. However, like many families, they started having problems because of their family business. When his brother got married, the wife wanted to get their share of the business and leave the family business. Many of you will not understand this but for Chinese families this is a big no – no. It is considered a taboo to do this. If you want to put up your own business, you just save up for it and put up your business, you don’t pull your share out of the family business. This created a big rift that broke the once peaceful family. With Chuan Biao and his sisters in one camp, then his brother in the other camp. Chuan Biao admitted that their tried to keep fair and be understanding to all her children but she really hate what Chuan Biao’s brother was doing and blamed the wife for all this.

Chuan Biao will be the first one to admit that he some what became bitter with how his brother and sister – in – law acted towards their business and their family that it became his goal to destroy his brother’s business. And so he put up the same business and naturally this made their rift even worse. So things got really serious that because of their family feud her mother had a stroke and passed away. Then this became the start of their bad luck.

Both Chuan Biao and his brother started losing money, their business went bad, and they have to start selling properties. Chuan Biao’s sisters’ family didn’t seem to have escaped the bad luck that strike. One of the sister’s husband left them for another woman, and Chuan Biao’s nephew from his other sister had an accident that rendered him paralyzed.

It is at this time that Chuan Biao’s wife seeks the help of a Buddhist monk. This particular Buddhist monk suggested that they put a sutra amulet of THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF THE BODHISATTVA KSITIGARBHA also called THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF EARTH STORE BODHISATTVA or simply EARTH STORE BODHISATTVA SUTRA or KSITIGARBHA BODHISATTVA SUTRA.

earth-store-bodhisattva-sutra-traditional

This is a copy of the traditional SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF BODHISATTVA KSITIGARBHA that my Guru Lama sent me.

NOTE: Although I have talked about Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and mentioned and put a link of his sutra, I really haven’t included this sutra in the RECITE – A – SUTRA series. But this is one of the most powerful sutra in the world.

Chuan Biao’s wife decided to follow the Buddhist monk’s advice, even though at that time her relationship with Chuan Biao is also already under strain because he seems to refuse to listen to her advice that he should make peace with his brother. She was also in luck because acquiring a traditional sutra amulet is quite difficult and is quite pricey. However, she was fortunate that the Buddhist monk who gave her the advice has a copy at that time.

Anyway, Chuan Biao’s wife decided to put a copy of THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF BODHISATTVA KSITIGARBHA on their altar and sure enough things started to get better. In fact, at present Chuan Biao and his whole family, including his brother’s grandchildren and great grandchildren will always have a family reunion 3x a year. Her sister who was left by her husband, is now back with her husband who repented. Chuan Biao’s nephew wasn’t able to walk again but he is now also a businessman, contrary to what the doctor said at that time that he would not be able to work again and think properly again. His brains are now fully functional.

How do I know this? I met Chuan Biao in a temple in Manila; they were saying a sutra for family members who passed away. At that time I was quite surprised to see them because it was the first time I saw such a big family. My father has 12 siblings but even our family reunions pales in comparison with what I saw. One of the Buddhist nun invited me to partake in the Vegetarian lunch sponsored by Chuan Biao’s family at the temple (it is customary for Buddhist to sponsor a vegetarian lunch at the temple where the whole family will eat also when they pray for the family members who has departed), and this is where I met Chuan Biao or Uncle Chuan Biao as I call him. He was the one who shared with me his story after 3 or 4 meetings when we were both waiting for something at the temple.

Chuan Biao is now 83 years old, he and his wife still goes to the temple a lot, and both believes that it was THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF BODHISATTVA KSITIGARBHA that brought the family back together again and brought their business back to it’s old glory. Chuan Biao believes that her mother passed away with a heavy heart that caused their bad luck.

At that time, when Uncle Chuan Biao found out that I am a student of Feng Shui, Taoism and Buddhism, he asked me whether I know where they can avail of the Traditional Sutra, because he wants all his family members to have one. Most temples have it but it is never given away or even sold. But at that time I don’t have anywhere to get a copy. That was about 3 years ago.

sutra-amulets

This is a small Medicine Buddha Sutra Amulet and a Medicine Buddha Lamp Amulet. I shall be writing about the Medicine Buddha Lamp Amulet soon.

But imagine my surprise when my Guru Lama called me to inform me that he will be sending me a few copies of traditional sutra (amulet) of the THE DIAMOND SUTRA and THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF BODHISATTVA KSITIGARBHA! Apparently, he got several copies from a Pure Land Buddhist monk in China, and he sent me 10 copies of each for me to be able to share with my readers in exchange for a specified donation that will go to food and an image of a Buddha. This has something to do with the exchange of energies, and to understand this better please read my post called – THE EVOLUTION OF ACQUIRING AN AMULET.

I was allowed to get one copy each so only 9 copies of each the traditional sutra (amulet) is available.

On my next post, I will talk about how THE DIAMOND SUTRA amulet and THE MEDICINE BUDDHA SUTRA amulet can benefit us.

Chant – A – Mantra (1): A Reintroduction to the Wonderful Benefit of Chanting A Mantra!

Published Hulyo 5, 2016 by jptan2012

Today, I would like to start a new series about chanting mantras. I felt this is an important topic / series to write because a lot of my readers are hooked with getting amulets. I know that the Vajrapani Ruel enjoys a certain amount of popularity amongst my readers and it has garnered a lot of o personal testimonies attesting to its miraculous power and effectiveness. However, the sad truth is that the Vajrapani Ruel is quite pricey for a lot of people, and more than that it is also relatively quite limited in the sense that it is not forever that we can have it. Not to mention the difficulty in making it and smuggling it out of Tibet, which is under the Mainland Chinese (China) rule that doesn’t allow it to be made or be brought out. So if you have the Vajrapani Ruel, consider yourself to be very lucky.

But as I said, sometimes we are very caught up to having the Vajrapani Ruel that if can’t have it we sort of go into some sort of despair. That shouldn’t be the attitude because the truth is the Buddha Himself has given us enough tools to assist us in our daily life. We have the sutras and at the same times we have the mantras.

It was several years back since I first introduced the power of mantras to my readers, and I will not write about it again. If you are a new reader and is not familiar with the power of mantras, I suggest you revisit my old post about it entitled – MANTRA: THE INSTURMENT TO TAP THE POWER OF SYMBOLIC SOUND, SCRIPT, AND THOUGHT – to know more about it.

But what I would like to reiterate today is that chanting mantras, again like reciting the sutras, should be done comfortably loud. That is because of the same reasons that I have discussed in RECITE A SUTRA 6: WHY DO WE HAVE TO LOUDLY RECITE SUTRAS? However, more that the reason discussed in the preceding post, reciting it loudly also helps us get attuned with the Buddha or Bodhisattva whose mantra we are chanting.

Whenever we chant a mantra, it is like an offering to the Buddha or Bodhisattva whose mantra we are chanting, but at the same time it is also like a call for help and establishing a link or a ‘relationship’ with them.

mala

In chanting a mantra, it is best to be use a mala so that you can keep track of the number of times you’ve chanted a mantra.

Chanting a mantra can make wonders, and this blog has been testament to what are the powers of chanting a mantra can do. But now that I’m actively writing about it again, I hope to show you more of these wonderful miracles that simply chanting a mantra can do.

A lot of people are concern about properly pronouncing the mantra. I always say that they shouldn’t sweat it that much. Right pronunciation is important but it will come to you sooner or later, what is more important is the sincere heart in chanting the mantras. I suggest that you read the post entitled – A HERMIT AND A MONK: A LESSON IN RECITING YOUR MANTRA! – as to what Lama Zopa Rinpoche has to say about pronunciation of the mantras.

But what are the benefits of chanting a mantra:

  1. Protection.
  2. Wealth, financial, money blessings.
  3. Good health.
  4. Family luck and/or relationship luck.
  5. Happiness.
  6. Peace.
  7. Miracles will happen more frequently.

I also decided to write this series because the previous mantras that I have shared before are anchored on the Buddha or Bodhisattva, which is really the proper way to present a mantra. However, having a predominantly Christian reader, I felt this approach is not very effective in making you understand it. So I will present the mantras on a per need basis. And whenever possible I will still present stories, real personal testimonies of either readers or friends or families who have used the mantra. I will also present combination mantras for more effective and swifter results.

One last thing, simply chanting a mantra will have an effect, but remember, chanting it under deep meditative state give you the ultimate effectiveness.

Recite A Sutra (6): Why Do We Have Loudly Recite Sutras?

Published Hulyo 4, 2016 by jptan2012

One of the most common question people ask me is as to why do we need to recite sutras loudly? And is silently reciting it will not have any effect?

First, the Buddha or Shakyamuni (also spelled as Sakyamuni) Buddha himself said that merely having a sutra around us would already have some effect. Or simply holding a sutra will already give us some blessing; so silently reciting it will definitely have some merits that may translate to wonderful blessings.

But why do Buddhist monks encourage us to chant it loudly or with voice? The truth is I myself believe in loudly reciting the sutra. And by loudly I don’t mean that we have to recite it at the top of our voice, but we don’t murmur either, it has to be recited with voice and as comfortably loud as possible. The key word here is comfortable. I believe in this because it is what my Guru Lama told me to do, and as my study about Buddhism went deeper I began to see the merit in loudly reciting the sutra, and I also saw that it is what the Buddha himself taught us to do, and it is what the Buddha also did when He still has a physical body.

But again why do we have to do it?

Buddhists believe in unseen entities and hungry ghosts. These unseen beings may be former humans or other spirit beings. They are simply around us, even though we don’t see and feel them. However, they may see or feel us.

We recite the sutra loudly primary because of them. Some of these beings lives in a lower realm, and they might not be able to access sutras. By loudly reciting a sutra they get to ‘hear’ the sutra and learn more about Buddhism. We even bless them simply by loudly reciting a sutra. And by blessing them we also get to gain more merits. And by continue reciting the sutra loudly, we might even help these beings get reborn in a better realm, and if we become that channel we will also gain bigger merits.

Furthermore, by loudly reciting the sutras, we vocally utter the very words of the Buddha, and even if it has been translated to English or any other language, there are still some degrees that those are the very words of the Buddha some 2,500 to 3,000 years ago. And simply doing that Heavenly Beings gets attracted by those words and listen to us, thus they hover over us and they also become instruments in giving us more blessings. They will ‘conspire’ to do what is best for us.

The above two reasons are what the Buddha Himself said in His sutras. So you see, whether we recite it loudly for heavenly beings to ‘bless’ us, or we recite it loudly to help bless those in the lower realms, at the end either of the two we still get blessed!

I know that when reciting the sutras, some people find it quite weird, because it is like reading a storybook. In a way it is because we get to read the real stories of what happened before and what the Buddha directly taught His disciples. But that’s the beauty of it, because we get to ‘witness’ thru reading the Buddha’s ways.

One reason I started this ‘Recite A Sutra’ series is because I believe you, as a reader will get a lot of blessings if we simply recite a sutra. The blessings that we get in reciting a sutra may vary from wealth luck to financial luck or money luck, or from family luck to descendant luck. The protection luck that we get is also enormous, regardless of the sutra that we recite.

But of course it is very important that we treat the sutra, no matter if the printing is bad, as a very holy object that it is.

Fifteen Merit Days: A Gift From the Heaven to Help Protect Us From the Ill Effects of the Year! (Part 2)

Published Pebrero 5, 2016 by jptan2012

In my preceding post, which is also the 1st part of this post, I talked about what I call the ‘Fifteen Merit Days’ that will happen on Feb. 8, 2016 to Feb. 22, 2016. As mentioned in that post, it is very rarely that the Chinese New Year and Tibetan New Year will happen at the same time, and because of this it created a special Fifteen Merit Days that can help protect us from the ill effects of the year and also create good karma for us.

Any good deeds are going to be have doubled or tripled merits.

But today, allow me some of the traditional way to earn merits on the said 15 Merit Days.

Chant the following mantras and Buddha or Bodhisattva names:

  1. Amitabha Buddha Mantra (OM AMI DEWA HRIH)
  2. Shakyamuni Buddha Mantra (OM MUNI MUNI MAHAY MUNI YE SOHA)
  3. Medicine Buddha Mantra (TADYATHA OM BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZYE MAHA BHEKANDZYE RADZA SAMUGATE SOHA)
  4. Mantra of the Compassionate Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara / Kuan Yin (OM MANI PADME HUM)
  5. Mantra of Ksitigarbha Buddha (OM AH KSITIGARBHA THALENG HUM)
  6. Name of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (NAMO TA XING PU XIEN PUSA)
  7. Mantra of Bodhisattva Manjushri (OM A RA PA TSA NA DHIH)
  8. Wish Fulfilling Manta and Negative Karma Cleansing Mantra (OM PADMO USHNISHA VIMALE HUM PHAT & OM HANU PASHA BHARA HEYE SOHA)
  9. Mantra of Bodhisattva Vajrapani (OM VAJRAPANI HUM)
  10. Mantra of Bodhisattva Vajrasattva (OM VAJRASATTVA HUM)

Recite the following Sutras:

  1. The Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra (Heart Sutra)
  2. The Diamond Cutter Sutra
  3. Sutra of the Medicine Buddha
  4. The Noble Stack of Auspiciousness Sutra
  5. The Buddha Speaks of Amitabha Sutra
  6. The Sutra on Impermanence

To do all these, it usually takes me 2 hours to finish all. You can omit some of the mantras or sutras mentioned on the list. However, remember the more you are able to do the more merit you’ll get. I especially recommend this to people who are sick or have a family who are sick and people born under the sign of the Ox and Tiger and also those who stay in the Northeast.

It will also be good if you can make vegetarian and fruit offering in the temple, as well as light and incense offering. Prostrating in front of an image of a Buddha or Bodhisattva will also likewise add some merits.

Please note that you can add other mantras or sutras. Especially the Mantra of Goddess Tara, Yellow Dzambhala, and Maitreya Buddha.

Again to better understand the 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey it will be good to read all the forecast. I know it is quite long but it is important for you to see the big picture.

Sutra & Mantra Retreat and Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual!

Published Nobyembre 4, 2015 by jptan2012

I have always believe in the power of chanting mantras and reciting / reading sutras. When people get in touch with me asking for the Vajrapani Ruel and because they can’t afford it or its not available at the time of request, I always tell them to chant some mantras or recite some sutras because these are very powerful tools or rituals that can help us surpass our problems. In fact, regular readers of this blog will see some personal testimonies of readers who simply chanted some mantras and were able to get their wishes.

That is why I’m very happy to announce that my Guru Lama is coming to the Philippines early next year to do a two – day Sutra and Mantra retreat and one day Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual. What’s even better is that the retreat and the Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual are going to be absolutely free!

I can’t clearly express as to what are the benefits of chanting a mantra and reciting a sutra because the wonderful blessings that one can get from them if properly done is simply enormous. It has the power to heal the sick, turn bad luck into good luck, create some wealth and financial luck. If these things are done for our recently departed relatives, it may give them a chance to be reborn with a good life.

The Sutra and Mantra retreat is going to be for 2 days from 6:30AM to 2:30AM straight! It seems quite tiring, but the truth is it’s not and if one is in the middle of it you’ll feel that 8 hours is simply nothing. Nevertheless, we’ll have 5 minutes bathroom break every hour or every hour ninety minutes, depending on the mantra and sutra being chanted or recited. On the first two days, which is the Sutra and Mantra retreat, we will be chanting and reciting different mantras and sutra for 8 hours each day straight! Well…almost straight!

On the third day, my Guru Lama is going to conduct a Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual or Puja.

What is an empowerment ritual or puja?

An empowerment ritual or puja is a ritual that is headed by a certified Lama that invokes the power of a Buddha or Bodhisattva or Deity. This is to request blessings and protection from the Buddha or Bodhisattva or Deity being invocated. This kind of ritual is rarely done in the Philippines and one needs a highly ordained monk or lama to be able to do this. For this particular empowerment ritual, we are invocating Vajrapani Bodhisattva, to get to know more about Vajrapani Bodhisattva please read my post called – THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL AMULET IN THE BUDDHIST PANTHEON CALLED VAJRAPANI RUEL.

Vajrapani Bodhisattva is primarily a protective bodhisattva but as you see in the various testimonials of people who has requested for the Vajrapani Ruel, a lot of these involve other things which is other than simply protection. For you to know more about these miracles you read some of the stories you can find below.

I will announce the exact date and time and location of the Sutra and Mantra Retreat and the Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual once we have finalized the details but this is confirmed and will happen soon after Chinese New Year of 2016.

As mentioned these events are absolutely free of charge. A reader who has experienced a Vajrapani Ruel miracle has committed to sponsor the vegetarian lunch (although it is going to be served after the retreat which is after 2:30pm). The vegetarian lunch is going to be cooked by Buddhist nun and volunteers of the host temple. Please note that although this is free we encourage you to bring some fruits as an offering to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. We will also encourage you to give a Sangha Offering, which is customary for every Buddhist ritual. A Sangha Offering is done by giving you a red envelope and you can put any amount inside the envelope, which you will then offer on the altar. The money inside can be as low as twenty – five centavos and nobody will know the amount that you will put because it will be then passed on to the host temple without being opened. We do this because the host temple will have some expenses by hosting us that goes to electricity, water, incense, and manpower.

As early as now I will also like to say that during these events no late comers will be allowed to join, and we will start promptly using the Philippine Standard Time as our official time. Should you feel that the even is taxing and tedious we suggest you leave during one of the bathroom breaks, but once you leave you will not be allowed to enter again. This is because in events like this we have to be very conscious that you don’t disturb the presiding lama and the participant. Phones are also going to be collected for safekeeping. No phones and/or any gadgets are allowed inside the ceremony hall to preserve the solemnity of the hall and the retreat or ritual.

I’m sure a lot of you will be asking as to what are the Sutras and Mantras that we are going to recite and chant. Please see the list below in no particular order.

The Mantra of The White Umbrella Goddess

Published Mayo 20, 2012 by jptan2012

In my last post, I wrote about Ushnisha Sitataputra who is better known as the The White Umbrella Goddess. While, I highly revere Ushnisha Sitataputra I unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, don’t have a highly miraculous personal story that I can share about her. However, allow me to share the story of a Canadian Buddhist who I met in one of my trips in Legaspi, Albay.

B works for an international NGO, and she was assigned in one of the remote town in Albay. Because she was assigned in a remote town that has no internet she’ll have to travel to Legaspi City every Monday to be able to do her paper work and reports and email them to their regional head. She would usually stay at the volunteer’s house rented by their NGO for them. The house also functions as an office. In one of her overnight stay at the Volunteer’s House an accident happened. The Filipina that they hired to help them keep the place clean forgot to turn off the electric fan that she used in the kitchen, they’re not sure whether it overheated or there was short circuit but whatever happened it created fire. At that time B and four other volunteers where in the house, but B was sharing a room with another female volunteer from Singapore.

B and her roommate were woken by shouts and banging from their door. When her roommate opened the door, one of the other male volunteers was shouting, according to B she didn’t really hear what he was saying because she already saw what was happening, the thick smoke outside their room indicated that there was fire and it was already bad.

According to B the three male volunteers attempted to go down the stair s but is unable to do so because of the thick smoke. They went inside B’s room and attempted to break the window. But typical of Filipino houses they were actually ‘barred’ from going out through the window. Unable to break the window, they all went to the only other room occupied by the male volunteers, but again their efforts to break the window proved futile. They were all in panic and felt that they’re trapped. B said she unconsciously touched the The White Umbrella Goddess pendant she is wearing, and something prompted her to recite the short version of the mantra of Ushnisha Sitataputra, she said she’s not sure how many times she recited it but soon after reciting the mantra she remembered that there is a fire escape which is weirdly accessible through the window in the restroom. She called everybody and while everything was burned to ashes, B and her co-volunteers escaped unharmed. She firmly believes that it was The White Umbrella Goddess who saved them.

According to Lama Zopa Rinpoche, one of the fastest ways to tap Ushnisha Sitataputra’s protection and/or blessing is to wear or have her image in your house and recite her mantra. The mantra of The White Umbrella Goddess is a mouthful but a very powerful one.

Allow me to share with you her mantra.

TADYATHA OM ANALE ANALE KHASAME KHASAME BHAYRE BHAYRE SAUMA SAUME SARVA BUDDHA ADISHTANA ADISHTITE SOHA OM SARVA TATHAGATHA USHINISHA SITATAPUTRA HUM PHAT HUM MAMA HUM NI SOHA

This is one of the mantras that I regularly recite, and although saying it 7 times a day, everyday, is powerful enough, I prefer reciting one full mala at least twice a week.

The short version of the mantra is HUM MAMA HUM NI SOHA. But it is advisable that you recite the full mantra three times before saying one full mala of the short version.

This pendant is similar to the one worn by B. My dream is to be able to design my own Ushnisha Sitataputra or The White Umbrella Goddess pendant. The ones that are available are made of plastic, like the one in the picture, or are made of cloth. They don’t last really long.

Furthermore, wearing an Ushnisha Sitataputra pendant will also ensure that you are constantly protected. Having an image of The White Umbrella Goddess at home, in your living room, will also ensure that your house is constantly protected.

A Hermit and A Monk: A Lesson on Reciting Your Mantra

Published Marso 20, 2012 by jptan2012

Since I started writing about Mantras, I’ve received countless emails and sometimes phone calls asking me about the right intonation of a mantra. I know for people who have just been recently introduced to the power of Mantras, it may be a little daunting because some of the Mantras can be mouthful like the Medicine Buddha Mantra – TADYATHA OM BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZYE MAHA BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZYE RADZA SAMUGATE SOHA – or the Prajnaparamita Mantra – TADYATHA OM GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SOHA. The truth there are other mantras, such as the Cundi Avalokitesvara Mantra – NAMO SAKTANAM SAMYAKSAM BUDDHA KOTINAM TADYATHA OM CALE CULE CUNDI SOHA (I’ll write about Cundi Avalokitesvara soon), that are way longer than the mantras that I’ve talked about on this blog.

I realize that this might be causing a little worry to some of you thinking that your wish might not happen because you are not pronouncing it properly. Also, because you might be agonizing too much on the proper pronunciation that you tend to forget to concentrate on the intent why you’re saying the mantra.

‘A Hermit and A Monk’ is a story that was shared by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, one of the most revered monks of high status.

Lama Zopa Rincpoche is considered as the one strongly propagates Buddhism to people who otherwise wouldn’t have heard of Buddhism. His work with Lillian Too also helped bridge the gap between Buddhism and Feng Shui, which was largely considered to be a Taoist practice. He is also task by the Dalai Lama to lead the Maitreya Project. A very ambitious project that hopes to build the largest Maitreya Buddha – the Future Buddha, in the world.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche first shared this story with the members of the ‘Foundation for the Preservation of Mahayana Tradition’, it was since then shared with other groups like the Amitabha Buddhist Center (a sub-center of FPMT), and he also shared this with Lillian Too.

A HERMIT AND A MONK…

A monk visited a hermit, who lived alone on an island doing retreat. The hermit had given himself three years to complete chanting ten million of the powerful six-syllable mantra of the Compassionate Buddha. The hermit had been told that attaining this level of practice would awaken his yogic powers. The mantra was “OM MANI PADME HUM”.

The monk listened as the hermit did his mantra and, with the best intention in the world, leaned over to him and whispered:

“I think you have got the pronunciation wrong. This mantra should be chanted this way…” and he proceeded to demonstrate. The hermit listened attentively and then watched as the monk walked back to his boat to leave the island.

Ten minutes later when the boat was halfway across the river the monk heard his name being called, and looking around, he spied the hermit and heard him call:

“Listen to this, have I got it right now?” and the hermit proceeded to chant the same mantra but with the monk’s intonation. Astounded, the monk turned around and saw the hermit walking on the water next to his boat. In that instant he realized that the hermit’s faith and sincerity had given his mantra recitation far more power than he had realized.

As you will see, the story state that what counts more is the faith and sincerity in reciting the mantra. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t strive hard to do our best to recite them properly, but let’s not agonize about it. If you have faith and sincerity then it’s simply impossible for it not to work!

A Calm Mind

Published Marso 7, 2012 by jptan2012

The idea to write about this again came from a reader who a few weeks ago contacted me to request for the WISH FULFILLING AND BUDDHA’S BLESSING MANTRA PENDANT.

J mentioned in one of his emails that he’s just starting to understand more about the Buddha Dharma. A few days ago, he wrote another email inquiring as to whether there are mantras that he can recite for him to be calm and for him to have peace of mind.

A calm mind and peace of mind are two different things. The latter is usually achieved one’s we have come to terms with our past deeds and mistakes, it is also achieved one’s we have attained a calm mind. It’s a struggle. Having a calm mind is a precedent for a peaceful mind.

Since a calm mind precedes a peaceful mind, that it what I’m going to discuss now.

The first thing that you have to acknowledge is that it takes practice to have a calm mind. You work on it, it’s not something that you simply hope for and voila it happens right away. You have to constantly remind yourself that you want to be calm, that you NEED to be calm.

I, myself, had to struggle to achieve a calmness that I really need. I used to be a very hot headed person, not only that, since I was young my mind has always been hyperactive, I would constantly think about how things would go wrong, how people are doing me bad, I always think that all good things are done with malice and hidden motives. Because of this, I do get into trouble a lot of times. I was pretty violent and pretty harsh with my words and deeds; this kind of behavior is destructive not only to the people around me but also to myself.

There were a few times that I wanted to see a therapist to help me with my hyperactive and malicious mind. However, when I delve into Buddhism deeply, I found myself becoming calmer. I still do have those burst of emotions and hyperactivity, but I can honestly say that I’m now calmer and is able to control myself better. I also don’t really think a lot of negative thoughts and my being a worrier has subsided.

I won’t be able to pinpoint in on a single thing that helped me to be more calm, rather the change, which was gradual, is brought about different things that all worked together in helping me to have a calm mind.

First, understanding more about Buddhism has really helped. It helps that I understand that every action, every thought, every word has an effect. It creates karma, and whether that karma is good or bad depends on your deeds, words, and thoughts. The idea that reward and punishment is directly proportionate to your own deeds, thoughts, and words helped me to be more cautious and level headed.

Second, images of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Deities, Immortals also helped in constantly reminding me that I can always call on their assistance for me to achieve the calmness that I need. They had become a constant point of meditation for me.

Another very effective tool is reciting the mantras. All the mantras will definitely have a calming effect. However, to be specific in the purpose of the calmness of the mind the PRAJNAPARAMITA MANTRA, the MANTRA OF THE MASTER OF HEALING, more popularly known as the MEDICINE BUDDHA MANTRA are the two mantras that works well with trying to calm the mind. The Prajnaparamita Mantra is – TADYATHA OM GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SOHA. It really is just GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SOHA, however, when reciting it one needs to add TADYATHA OM. The Medicine Buddha Mantra is – TADYATHA OM BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZYE MAHA BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZYE RADZA SAMUGATE SOHA.

Reading the various SUTRAS are also very helpful in trying to achieve a calmness of the mind. This is not only because at the point of reading you try your best to concentrate on the teaching, but more importantly, the Sutras really has such an effect.

Wearing a PRAYER WHEEL is also a very powerful tool to help achieve a calmness of the mind that we all need. If you want to know more about the Prayer Wheel do read my post – THE POWER OF A PRAYER WHEEL.

In my pursuit to have a calmer mind, I also decided to never watch horror movies because I find that the chi in creating a horror movie and watching them is so bad that it disturbs a person. It doesn’t matter whether you get scared or not, just watching it is enough to affect you in some way.

Wearing the image of the Medicine Buddha or the symbolic script of the Medicine Buddha Mantra as pendant also has a calming effect. I’ve previously discussed in length about the Medicine Buddha and about the power of the mantra. If you want to know more about them please read my post entitled – MEDICINE BUDDHA: A HEALER, PROVIDER, AND PROTECTOR OF BOTH THE PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL REALM – and – MANTRA: THE INSTRUMENT TO TAP THE POWER OF SYMBOLIC SOUND, SCRIPT, AND THOUGHT – respectively.

The WISH FULFILLING AND BUDDHA'S BLESSING MANTRA PENDANT has the image of the Medicine Buddha on the front and the Medicine Buddha Mantra symbolic script at the back.

These are just some of the tools that we can use to help us have a calmer mind. There are other ways to achieve a calm mind, however, this would require seeing one’s BAZI and Feng Shui of the house. Thus, I’m unable to discuss it here.

But more than anything, the first step to a calm mind is the decision to make it happen.

Tips to Cure Bad Chi that Affects Family Relationship

Published Marso 3, 2012 by jptan2012

I decided to write this post because of a reader who recently consulted me about her relationship with her mom. They know they love each other but they also fight a lot. K, the reader, was one of the first readers of this blog who contacted me through email requesting that her BAZI be read. It took me a few weeks before I was able to deliver her BAZI analysis. One of her primary reason of wanting her chart to be read is because she just recently went through a major change in her life and also she became a little worried because she read that this might be a bad year for people born under the sign of the Dragon. K is a Dragon.

K’s BAZI chart showed that she might have some relationship problems with her mom. It’s nothing that both of them want or seek, but it’s simply because it was destined to be that way, to further aggravate this her mom was born under the year of the Dog, which totally contradicts the Dragon.

K confirmed the BAZI analysis as shown on her BAZI chart. If we’ve seen K’s BAZI when she was younger, the remedy could have been asking her mom to let K call her another term for mother, other than what she’s usually addressed by the other children. For example, if her children call the mom Mama, K could just call her mommy or mom.  If she’s called Mommy, K can just call her mom, mama, or even Inay. That’s one of the simplest cure for relationship problem that has something to with the BAZI or fate.

Also knowing about this earlier in their life could have prepared the mom to work harder with their relationship. This is one problem that really has to be addressed on as early as possible, it’s harder to ‘heal’ the wounds that has been repeatedly wounded several times through the years. However, it’s useless ‘crying over spilled milk’, Feng Shui is useless unless one is able to solve a ‘problem’.

Nevertheless, I have to admit that relationship problems specially one that is deeply rooted in the BAZI, which is destined as dictated by one’s birth date, is the ‘hardest’ to work on. But knowing that these arguments are caused by other than one’s personality is a first step in trying to tone down the bad chi brought about by fate. Secondly, one really has to be more patient with each other.

If you’re experiencing relationship problems with any of members of your family, regardless of whether it’s karmic or not, do the first two steps I just mentioned. Then, you can also do the following Feng Shui tips and/or Taoist and Buddhist rituals to help address the bad chi or energy that’s causing the disharmony.

SIX CRYSTAL BALLS IN THE LIVING ROOM. Placing six smooth crystal balls in the living room will help create harmony within the family. If possible, get a crystal ball that has some symbolic script on them, because this helps enhance the ‘power’ created by the good Feng Shui created by putting the crystal balls. If possible, use real crystal balls, but because this can get quite expensive, you can get two natural crystal balls and the rest can be made of glass. However, never ever get anything that’s made of plastic. Any color will do and they don’t have to be of the same size and color.

RECITE THE PRAJNAPARAMITA MANTRA. I’ll discuss more about the Prajnaparamita Mantra and its Sutra in one of my future posts but right now what’s important is to understand that this mantra is a powerful mantra that helps actualize harmony within the home or anywhere where this mantra is recited. If possible, recite this mantra in the living room or in the center of the house. If the affected parties are staying in the same bedroom, then reciting this in the bedroom is also good. For utmost effectiveness, recite one full mala (one full mala is 108 times) five times a day. You can recite all the five full mala at one time, but it’s best if it’s spread throughout the day. The PRAJNAPARAMITA MANTRA is – TADYATHA OM GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SOHA. (Note on Pronunciation: GATE is pronounced as GA – short A and TE as Tay – sounds like long A or the English word TAIL without the L).

Symbolic Script of the Prajnaparamita Mantra. The actual script reads GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SOHA. However, when reciting the mantra one needs to add TADYATHA OM, making the full mantra TADYATHA OM GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SOHA. One can also print several copies of the symbolic script of the Prajnaparamita Mantra and fold it and put in inside a red cloth. Then give one each to all affected members of the family.

SUN POWER TO CLEANSE NEGATIVE ENERGIES. Regularly cleanse your mattress, pillows, and blankets from negative energies. These are the things that we use in the evening, and we leave an energy imprint on them, they are also seldom exposed to direct natural Yang energy, thus it becomes Yin energy, this in turn may contribute to the negative energy that creates disharmony. Cleaning them with Sun Power is an effective way of infusing some Yang energy on them. You can do this every 2 weeks, bring out the mattress, clean blankets and pillows and expose them to direct sunlight. Preferably between 7 and 9 in the morning.

CLEAR CLUTTER. Clear all the clutter in the house. Clutters tend to create energy blockage, which in turn may also create disharmony among others.

Not an accurate depiction.

MOON AND PERFUMED WATER RITUAL. (1.) On an evening with a full moon, place a big bowl of water, make sure you use white colored bowl. While it should be full, make sure that it doesn’t spill. (2.) Leave the bowl of water under the moon from 7PM to 6AM the following day. (3.) Place 5 different flowers that has five different colors that represents the five elements. Red, pink, orange, purple flower for the fire element; white flower for the metal element; blue flower for the water element; green flower for the wood element; yellow flower for the earth element. The flowers will be put in the Moon energized water at 6AM the following day. (4.) Bring the water inside the house and if possible put it on your altar then say the PRAJNAPARAMITA MANTRA 108 times. If you don’t have an altar just bring it in the living room or at the center of the house. (5.) After saying the full mala of PRAJNAPARAMITA MANTRA, blow on the water. (6.) Then put a pinch of salt and a pinch of saffron the water. In the absence of water one can also use any other ordinary scented oil. Almond or Vanilla are also very good. Florida Water may be use also. (7.) Sprinkle the water in the living room, and in the bedrooms of the affected members of the family. (8.) Leave some of the water to be mixed in the bath water of the affected members of the family. About one tablespoon per person will do.

Feng Shui Tips to Activate Descendant Luck

Published Pebrero 29, 2012 by jptan2012

One of the greatest aspirations of the Chinese is to ensure that they have good descendants, thus when looking for a spouse they consult Feng Shui experts to ensure that descendant’s luck of a couple is present. In fact, once the wife gets pregnant she is treated like a goddess, even the mother-in-law will definitely make sure that the pregnant daughter-in-law is taken care of properly to ensure a smooth pregnancy.

Also, in the old days much effort is given to ensuring that a boy is born, is to ensure the family’s lineage is well preserved. A girl is considered as a less important child because she is destined to be married off to another family, and thus considered as somebody else’s child. In fact, this practice or belief has become so bad that there are some Chinese families who don’t give names to their daughter because they’re destined to be known as the wife of so-so. Thus when addressing them in the household they’re simply called as First Daughter, Second Daughter, Big Sister, or Second Sister, or Third Sister. When addressed by somebody else other than their family they’re simply called as ‘First Daughter of Wong Family’ they’re simply defined by their family name and whether they’re the eldest daughter or the youngest, etc. When they get married they’re then simply defined by the husband’s family name. My own grandmother doesn’t even have her own name.

However, because I don’t believe that women are of a ‘lesser’ being compared to men, I will not write about Feng Shui tips in ensuring that the couple are to have a boy, rather, I’d like to share some Feng Shui tips to activate one’s Descendant Luck or Fertility Luck.

Several of the Feng Shui tips that I’m going to mention are things that I’ve recommended to friends and family.

RED KUAN YIN PENDANT.  Kuan Yin (also known as ‘Goddess of Mercy’, ‘Buddha of Compassion’) is a Bodhisattva revered both in Taoism and Buddhism. Kuan Yin grants the wish of having of babies. For this purpose a red Kuan Yin (also spelled as Kwan Yin, Quan Yin) is best to help you activate your Descendant’s Luck. It is highly recommended that both the husband and the wife wear a red Kuan Yin pendant. However, if this is not possible, then it is recommended that the woman wear the pendant. I have three different previous post about Kuan Yin. Get to know her by reading them. The first post is KUAN YIN: THE ONE WHO HEARS THE CRIES OF THE WORLD, the second post is UNDERSTANDING MERCY AND COMPASSION: THE TRANSFORMATION OF AVALOKITESVARA TO KUAN YIN, and the third post is PAYING HOMAGE TO KUAN YIN, THE BUDDHA OF COMPASSION.

RABBIT. A rabbit is a very powerful symbol of fertility. It’s believes that placing the image of a rabbit in the East section of the bedroom can increase the chances of fertility.

HAPPY FAT BUDDHA WITH CHILDREN. Having the image of the Happy Fat Buddha whose real name is Maitreya Buddha in your house helps increase your potential of having a good descendant luck. You can also know more about the Happy Fat Buddha by clicking here.

CARNELIAN BRACELET. Carnelian or Carnelian Agates or Orange Agates worn as bracelet is one of the best fertility charm. Carnelian is a stone or semi-precious stone that directly controls our sixth chakra – the sire where our reproductive organs are located. Wearing a carnelian as a bracelet will increase the wearer’s chance of being more fertile. This charm is also great for people who have found to have low sperm or egg count.

IMAGE OF KUAN YIN WITH A BABY. Placing an image of Kuan Yin with a Baby is another Feng Shui Descendant Luck enhancer. For this purpose, it’s best to place the image of Kuan Yin with a Baby on the west section of your house. If this is not possible you can also place the image of Kuan Yin with a Baby in the West corner of your living room.

A PAIR OF ELEPHANTS. This is one of the most effective Feng Shui cure and enhancer to activate one’s descendant luck. You should note that the trunk of the elephants should be down and not up. Place a pair of elephants with the trunks down on the west section of your room and if possible both couples should stroke the trunks of the elephant three times each night.

THREE PIECES OF CERAMIC OR PORCELAIN POMEGRANATE AND/OR PEACH. Both the pomegranate and the peach are powerful Feng Shui tools to enhance your descendant luck or fertility luck. In choosing a ceramic or porcelain pomegranate, choose the one that has a color of deep red. For ceramic or porcelain peach choose one that has a color of bright pink.

RECITE THE MANTRA OF GODDESS TARA. Goddess Tara or Green Tara is a Buddhist deity born out of Avalokitesvara or Kuan YIn’s tear drop. I’ll discuss more about Green Tara on a future post, however, allow me to say that calling on Goddess Tara by reciting her mantra is one way of activating one’s Descendant Luck. Furthermore, placing an image of the white manifestation of Goddess Tara called White Tara on the west section of your house also activates one’s descendant luck. Goddess Tara’s mantra is OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA. Wearing her seed syllable TAM is also a powerful tool to activate one’s descendant luck. The seed syllable TAM is one of the featured symbolic syllable in the WISH FULFILLING AND BUDDHA’S BLESSING MANTRA PENDANT.
