A Lunar Eclipse, A Solar Eclipse, and the Hungry Ghost Month: A Warning that We Should All Try To Keep Safe!

Published Agosto 14, 2017 by jptan2012

A few days ago, BM, a reader and a friend from Davao, who regular readers of this blog would be familiar by this time, asked me about this year’s Hungry Ghost Month. She wants to know whether it is going to be particularly bad. If you look at the relation of the coming of the Hungry Ghost Month with the flying star of August and September, the effects should not be very bad, and so I told her that this year’s Hungry Ghost Month although we should still be very careful is not in any way particularly stronger unless you are born in the year of the Horse, Snake or Sheep.

However, when I said this I was really busy and haven’t really taken the time out to look at formation of the stars thoroughly, and so I was greatly surprised that during one of my business meetings, one of my clients who knows that I’m a Feng Shui writer asked me about the effects of the lunar eclipse. I was surprised because of my busy schedule I didn’t even realized that we just had a lunar eclipse, albeit a partial one. But of course this had me worried already, because every lunar eclipse is definitely followed by solar eclipse, and when I checked I found out that it would be a total solar eclipse!

Now whether we see the solar eclipse here in Asia or not is irrelevant because the effects is definitely worldwide.

I have written in previous articles that an eclipse is almost always a bad omen. This is whether the eclipse is solar or lunar. For this year’s solar eclipse, what makes it dreadful is that it happens on the eve of the Hungry Ghost Month, and I have never ever recalled than an eclipse happening on the eve of the Hungry Ghost Month, and this is most certainly an indication that something big either worldwide or to several countries will happen during the Hungry Ghost Month or will start during the Hungry Ghost Month.

In my annual forecast, I said something might happen on the 3rd quarter of this year, and this full solar eclipse on the eve of the Hungry Ghost Month seems to have validated this forecast, and so all of us have to be careful and take extra precaution. It will also greatly help if we can include in our prayers or dedication of merits our countries, the welfare of this world, and also the leaders of this world and of our countries.

On a personal level, it is best to stay indoor during the actual eclipse, and is also highly advisable to wear the Kalachakra Pendant, or carry the Vajrapani Ruel with a Chung Kwei. This is because this phenomenon also has the power wreak some bad luck in our lives. Financial problems might occur especially to those who are in the midst of big transition, or worst health or safety issues might arise especially to those who whose job or lifestyle is already putting them at risk more than a normal person is and definitely those who are already sick.

Regular readers of this blog knows that I hate being a messenger of doom, but this is something that we really need to face and be ready for. And as I always say, the reason we know these things in advance because we can do something about it.

The Buddhist Neighbor

Published Oktubre 17, 2016 by jptan2012

I’m really quite happy that I received the traditional copy of THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF THE EARTH STORE BODHISATTVA (also called known as Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva) and THE DIAMOND OF PERFECT WISDOM SUTRA just when we are settling to our new home. As I have said these traditional sutra amulets provides protection but more than that they also provide wonderful blessings. I have been looking and aspiring to get such sutras to be place in our house or even in my room. However, even if it is quite common for temples to have them, they are not for sale, neither it is regularly given to the temple goers. Furthermore, while they are in itself carries with it some power; it will be better to get one that was consecrated by a qualified lama or monk. Not all monks are qualified to consecrate a sutra amulet.

These are just one copy each of the very limited copies sent to me by my Guru Lama of the THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF THE KSITIGARBHA BODHISATTVA, THE DIAMOND OF PERFECT WISDOM SUTRA and THE MEDICINE BUDDHA SUTRA. Sutras are also used as very powerful amulets, that is why you will often old Buddhist Chinese houses has a copy of the Sutra on their altar though they might not be reciting the sutra itself.

But what I want to share now is that when we first moved to our new home, and although we got all the most auspicious omens which I have written about a few posts ago, we sometimes still can’t help but miss our old home. We have been living in our old home since 1980, and moving to new home, even one we have grown to love right away still makes us feel a little ‘homesick’. I think one of the reasons for this; we practically don’t know any of our neighbors. My mom who is not in her 70’s had to make new friends in our neighborhood and it would be quite difficult, especially when we never had any other neighbors than Chinese and pure Filipino, but now some of our neighbors are Spanish mestizo or mestizo.

One other reason is that there is no Buddhist temple that is near our place. I think the nearest is about 45 minutes away. Unlike before where it was only 8 minutes away, on top of that, we’ve designed our house to include a big image of a Bodhisattva Kuan Yin (also called or spelled as Avalokitesvara, Guan Yin, Kuan Shi Yin, Guan Shi Yin, Kannon, Cannon) on our small and humble front lawn, and the image of Guan Yin Bodhisattva can be seen outside. Several times when we light incense or made offerings in that particular image of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, I noticed some car slowing down or there are a few who really can’t resist but to stare. From what I know there are very few Filipino – Chinese in our new subdivision and I really haven’t seen any of them. And maybe there would be even fewer Buddhist, and we were informed by the person who sold us the property that the subdivision is predominantly Catholic.

About a week since we moved in to our new home, neighbors started introducing themselves, and our image of Kuan Shi Yin Bodhisattva on our small and humble front lawn became the main focus of these conversations. My mom told me that she felt awkward explaining to our new neighbors as to why do we make offerings in front of the image. However, I think this seems to be an indication that they are genuinely interested in what we do and told my mom that she can use this as an opportunity to talk about Buddhism. But she clearly pointed out to me that she doesn’t have the passion of talking about her faith to people.

Anyway, when I received the traditional copies of the sutra amulets, and my Guru Lama said I and my family can have one each of THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF THE KSITIGARBHA BODHISATTVA and THE DIAMOND OF PERFECT WISDOM SUTRA (also called THE VAJRA CUTTER PERFECTION OF WISDOM SUTRA or THE VAJRA SUTRA or THE VAJRA CUTTER SUTRA or THE DIAMOND SUTRA), and so as I said I was really happy to place them on the altar. It is customary that each member of the family to have one wish each as you put the sutras on the altar (we got two wishes each because there are two sutras), my youngest nephews all of a sudden uttered that his only wish is for his grandmother (my mother) to meet a Buddhist neighbor so that his grandmother won’t feel like she’s an alien.

Guess what? The next day, one of our neighbors (well they’re from two streets away) rang our bell and welcomed us with a pot of a vegetarian dish. They are a couple around 60 something. The wife is a Filipina and the husband is Irish, and they both happen to be practicing Buddhist for more than 20 years already! They said they’re happy that have a Buddhist neighbor. I wasn’t there at that time, but my mom said that she told them that she was happy to finally have met a Buddhist neighbor!

Positive Omens Signifies Good Outlook in the New House!

Published Oktubre 5, 2016 by jptan2012

Recently, my family and I moved into a new house in a subdivision in Quezon City near some well-known universities. When we were looking into this new place they all depended on me to look at the Feng Shui and to ensure that the energies of the house are really good.

We chance upon this old house that has been abandoned for several years already, and the history is not quite good. However, when I look at the Feng Shui it seems to be good, my only concern is that of a slightly bad history. I know that being abandoned is not entirely bad, because we are renovating it anyway thus it will renew the energies and it will make the house appropriate for the current Feng Shui period. Also while the general Feng Shui of the house is good, the busy main road is on the left side of the house, and it is a heavy main road because that’s the only road going to the university and college near our new house. While technically we are not beside it, it is several houses a way and is outside the subdivision perimeter wall, this is not very good for the bigger aspect of Feng Shui of our house. However, my Guru Lama said we should transfer there because it is a good house for us.

So renovations started, but maybe it out of sadness for leaving our house of a little more than 30 years we were all a little giddy a week before we transferred. My siblings and I, especially my mother, are short tempered. This prompted me to call my Guru Lama and my Feng Shui teacher, and both of them assured me that it is a good house. Besides, the neighborhood that we have from our old house is already a lot different from what it used to be. We now have several factories, and warehouses in the neighborhood. There are a lot of informal settlers, and at night on our street alone there are a lot of ‘street boys and girls’ drinking beer. After a very long discussion and much thought, which actually lasted years, we decided to sell the house and get a new one. Our old house was sold through an agent and so we don’t know much about the new owners, but we decided to be transparent as to why we sold the house. We were informed that they would make it into smaller apartment so and rent it out. Some of the houses on our street has actually become an apartment complex already.

Anyway, going back to our new house, we ensured the Feng Shui are proper, and we followed all the necessary rituals before we moved in. But nevertheless, I silently have been asking for some omens that will inform us that we moved to a good house. And just before we started a ritual, three butterflies flew to the door of the house and went inside. That was a very positive omen.

But it doesn’t end there, after our first night, the following morning I was awaken by the melodious chirping of some birds, and when I look out of my window, there is a rare bird that I have never seen, it looks blue to my eyes. I wanted to take a photo but it flew away even before I was able to get my phone. Then on the other side of the house, my sister, her husband, were also awaken by the melodious chirping of the birds, and when they look out of their window, they said they saw six or seven Maya bird on the tree outside their window! What a wonderful omen! Regular readers should know by now that birds are wonderful omen of good news or good luck!

My mother decided to have her bedroom on the ground floor because she already finds it difficult to keep on climbing the stairs. Her bedroom has a small ‘rock garden’ only it has some plants also. There she found a tortoise (because it seems to live on land thus it should be a tortoise), and this is a very auspicious omen for all of us but specifically for my mom because it signifies stability and long life!

The omens we experienced worked for us, so the next time you moved to a new house or office do look for the omens!

In Feng Shui A Little Common Sense Will Help Appease Our Worries!

Published Agosto 2, 2016 by jptan2012

Several months ago somebody called me who is quite frantic, because her prayer bead or mantra bead or mala broke while she was using it. She was really scared that this is an omen of extreme bad luck. In the same manner, I was reminded of another call that happened a few years back, a friend called me because his citrine with nine – eyed DZI bracelet broke just when he was about to take it off. He became worried also that this is also an omen of financial bad luck.

But you see the lady who called me about the broken mala has been using her mala for more than 10 years already. And the guy has had his citrine beads with nine – eyed DZI bracelet for almost 2 years, and he takes it off and wears it everyday. So you see, common sense dictates that there is no omen. It is really just bound to happen because of wear and tear.

Nevertheless, I cannot blame them from panicking, because a lot of Feng Shui writers will attribute such occurrence as an omen. And in some way, they may be correct, but this is where common sense should come in.

If you have been using your mala for more than 10 years it is bound to break, maybe earlier if the quality of the string used is not so good. Beaded bracelet needs to be replaced every year because the garterized thread or nylon thread used in those bead bracelets if stretched everyday will only last about a year, sometimes even shorter if you live in a hot weather and if the quality is bad. So you see, they are bound to break, and not every breakage is a sign of bad omen.

When should you worry, if the incident of the breakage is somewhat can’t be explained. Like a 2 – week old mala breaking off, or a bracelet breaking off without an apparent reason, that’s when it should be considered as a bad omen. What should you do if this happened? Consult a Feng Shui or if one is not available, take a sea salt or rock salt bath to help take away the negative energy.

Myth Buster 42: Lightning Storm is A Sign of Bad Omen!

Published Hunyo 8, 2016 by jptan2012

Photos-of-Lightning12On July 10, 1856 a pregnant woman went into labor. While delivering her baby around midnight, there was a strong lightning storm. Thus while delivering the child, the midwife got pretty scared, and when everything has settled, the midwife told the new mother that her son is a child of darkness. It was said that the mother got scared for she knew about the belief that lightning storm are a sign of bad omen and/or that it shows that the child is a child of evil. Which is another pervading belief in some Eastern European countries.

The child is Nikola Tesla, a Serbian scientist who later became an American. He worked for Thomas Edison, and while he is not as famous as Thomas Edison, his discovery and invention of the modern Alternating Current (AC) electrical supply has greatly impacted on how we use electricity these days.

Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla is the living proof that Lightning Storms are not bad omen. In fact, regular readers of this blog, especially those who have the world’s most powerful amulet in the Buddhist pantheon, the Vajrapani Ruel, would know that Bodhisattva Vajrapani is of the Vajra lineage and He has the power of the lightning and thunder.

Having said this, contrary to the popular belief that lightning storm is a bad omen, if we only tap into it’s power, lightning storm can help change bad luck to good luck.

Some of you might remember that I have written about the power of lightning. If not you can read the posts:

An Unusual Powerful Symbol and Feng Shui Tip to Enhance Wealth Luck: A Bat with a Coin

Published Abril 29, 2014 by jptan2012

Today, allow me to introduce you to one of the most unusual powerful symbol to enhance your wealth luck, which is the image of a bat with a coin. I say unusual because for a lot of people a bat is a scary thing, Westerners usually depicts a bat as sign of bad omen and in movies or books, a bat is usually said to a vampire in disguise.

However, as mentioned in one of my previous post – MYTH BUSTER 4: BATS BRINGS BAD LUCK, bats are actually a sign that good fortune is about to come your way. In fact, it is a powerful Feng Shui tip to enhance wealth luck.

For those who want to gain great financial or wealth luck, it is highly recommended that you tap into the power of a bat with a coin. While a symbol of a bat in general generates good fortune or luck, if the bat carries with it a coin, it becomes more focused on what kind of luck it will generate. It will become focus on giving a person good wealth luck.

I’m not sharing this on simple theoretical point of view. I have a friend who actually credits his good financial luck to the bat with coin pendant that I gave him about a year ago.

I’ve known JO for quite sometime now, but because he is a born again Christian, he never really believed in Feng Shui. However, when he encountered a big problem with his business and was in danger of losing everything that he has worked for, he was forced to ask me what to do. I initially suggested the WISH FULFILLING AND BUDDHA’S BLESSING MANTRA PENDANT, but his religious beliefs prevented him for getting one. He said he couldn’t wear anything that has an image of a Buddha. He said he’ll be ostracized from his church and they’ll call him a backslider. I then suggested that he try a wearing a pendant that has an image of a bat and a coin. I looked into my collection and found one that’s made of lapis lazuli, which is a blue stone. Gave it to him and he wore it. If people ask him he just says that it’s a pendant given to him by his mom who got it in China. The design is very Chinese anyway.

The 'Bat with Coin' pendant I gave my friend mentioned in this post is very similar to this one.

The ‘Bat with Coin’ pendant I gave my friend mentioned in this post is very similar to this one.

According to JO, little by little he noticed that his problems left him and that in a year’s time not only was he able to survive, but more than that, he now has paid off all his debts, wherein the initial projection if everything goes well, it’ll take him 4 years to pay off all his debts. But in a year’s time he was able to pay off all his debts and is now saving money to do a little expansion.

So next time you badly need financial luck enhancement, try to get a pendant that has an image of a bat with a coin. It is better if the pendant is made of lapis lazuli or sodalite or any other blue stone because blue in Feng Shui symbolizes money or wealth. This will actually make the pendant more potent.

Myth Buster 11: Pregnant Women Brings Luck to the House

Published Mayo 30, 2012 by jptan2012

There’s a belief that pregnant women naturally brings luck to the house and drives away negative energies. Well, generally speaking this is a myth.

Generally speaking, the belief that a pregnant woman brings good luck and drives away negative energies and/or evil spirits is a myth.

Pregnant women doesn’t bring luck per se but it’s more of an indication or omen that good luck is about to come your way, and this is true only if you bump into a pregnant women who doesn’t live with you. If you have a problem and while thinking about it you bumped into a pregnant woman, or open the TV and saw a pregnant woman then it’s a very good sign that whatever problem you’re going through is going to turn out fine.

Second, having pregnant woman in the house will bring good luck and drive away negative energies is very much true in the olden times, but, I’m afraid that while it may still have some truth to it, it is not because of the pregnant woman itself but more of the process of giving birth.

What brings luck is the yang energy brought about by the process of giving birth , which in the olden times usually happens at home. It’s the blood spilled in the process of birth that cleanses the house of the woman from negative energies and/or evil spirits thus cleansing the house. One other thing that brings luck to the house is the fresh and pure yang energy of a healthy baby.
