Bodhisattva Wishfulling and Master Protection Amulet Pendant (2): Getting Reacquainted with Bodhisattva Guan Yin!

Published Nobyembre 9, 2018 by jptan2012

Kuan YinKuan Yin, also spelled as Quan Yin or Guan Yin, is a Bodhisattva of Compassion. A lot of people refer to her as the Buddha of Compassion, which is technically wrong in terms of terminology, but absolutely right when refers to her true being.

The truth is Quan Yin or Kuan Yin is a Bodhisattva who refuses to enter Buddhahood because of her desire to help all sentient beings to achieve nirvana or the Buddhist equivalent of heaven.

Kuan Yin (also spelled as Quan Yin, Kwan Yin, Guan Yin, Gwan Yin) is  of mercy and compassion. It is said, that her compassion towards sentient beings exceeds that of all the other Bodhisattvas combined. She is considered to be a source of unconditional love and a savior of sentient beings. When talking about Kuan Yin’s love for us, mankind is usually not used, because it is said that it is an underestimation of her compassion. Sentient beings is generally use because this also refers to other beings, other than just us humans, it refers to all living creatures that includes insects.

As a Bodhisattva, Kuan Yin pledges to response to all the cries and please of all beings, in fact, it is aid that even before you utter your plea, Kuan Yin would already have heard you and responded to your plea. Naturally, devotion to her will help hasten this, but you need not believe in her for her to reply to your pleas. The sutras that talked about Kuan Yin as a savior of both the spiritual and physical realm and when a person with deep negative karma call upon her, she will have cleanse and help this person from his karmic burden.

I don’t think that it’s an exaggeration to say that Kuan Yin’s popularity amongst Chinese Buddhist exceeds that of other Buddha and Bodhisattva. She is extremely popular and revered that Taoism has also ‘adopted’ her thus making her one of the most revered Taoist deities. It is not surprising to see Taoist temples having her image.

She is also extremely popular as being a merciful deity that some people wrongly address her as Goddess of Mercy.

There are a lot of miracles that are attributed to Kuan Yin. These miracles may range from the simple things like wanting to get a job, wanting to have a child to something really big and may seem like impossible.

My personal treasure trove of stories about Kuan Yin’s blessings and/or miracles is simply amazing. Not to mention stories shared with me by my friends, relatives, and acquaintances. You simply have to search the net and you’ll see a lot of stories about Kuan Yin’s miracles.

I’m not going to share a personal story because that will be a little self-serving. Instead, let me share with you a story of a woman who goes to the same temple that I go to. Let’s just call her A. A is a 40 something housewife. She said that she’s a devotee of Kuan Yin just like her mother. In fact, I’ll often see her make some offerings to Kuan Yin even if there’s no occasion such as the Kuan Yin feast day. I talked to her about her devotion to Kuan Yin and she clarified that while there are other small miracles that she can attribute to Kuan Yin, she believes that 2 of the important thing that happened in her life is due to Kuan Yin’s blessing. The first one is when she had her first child. It was a difficult pregnancy not only because it was her first child, but it was also a complicated pregnancy that almost got aborted several times. The worst part of the pregnancy happened on the 7th month. She had a severe case of bleeding that they thought she’d go into premature labor. On the way to the hospital, while her husband is driving, she and her mom just kept on calling Kuan Yin’s name while they mentally pray that Kuan Yin save her baby.kuan yin 4b

She was stabilized at the hospital but they can’t say the same were true for her baby. They are unable to detect the heartbeat of the baby and the ultrasound shows that the baby isn’t moving at all! After a while, the OB informed them that if another 15 minutes passed by with a heartbeat and/or a movement they would have to operate on her. By this time, she was almost hysterical, out of desperation; her mom took of her Kuan Yin pendant and gave it to A. A didn’t wear pendant but she ‘hold on’ to Kuan Yin, about 5 minutes after she ‘hold on’ to the pendant, the doctor got an heartbeat from the baby and the ultrasound also showed some movements! The baby who is now an 11-year-old boy is an honor student in Xavier.

Another story that she shared with me is about her husband. A’s husband owns a restaurant and there are times that her husband will have to stay out late to check on the operations of the restaurant. One night, when he was about get on the car, he suddenly had a very strong urge to go back and check on the Kuan Yin altar that A insisted be installed in his office. He just had this nagging feeling that he left something inside, it almost feels like he was being called to go back in by an unseen ‘force’. He thought to himself he might have left incense lighted, which might cause some fire. So he decided to go back in the restaurant. As soon as he stepped inside the restaurant he heard a very loud crashing noise, so loud, that some of the diners ducked down!

When A’s husband looked as to what happened, he saw that a large truck and another car crushed his own car! What happened was a drunk truck driver lost control of his truck, hit a car, which also hit A’s husband’s car. The whole driver side of A’s car was flattened! If he were in the car he would have died already or seriously injured. A said that when she saw the car she cried because she knew that if her husband was in the car he would have died already.

After the incident, that’s when A’s husband realized that he didn’t even light an incense, because he was really not in the habit of lighting an incense in the evening. It is simply not safe.

According to A both she and her husband believes that he was ‘called’ by Kuan Yin so that he wouldn’t have to be in the car when the accident happened.

A and her family always wears the image of Kuan Yin as pendant. This is just two stories from a single person; however, there are a lot more Kuan Yin miracle stories that can be shared.

Kuan Yin1

People who have read my earlier posts knows of my devotion to the ‘Great Sage, Equal of Heaven’ the Monkey God or Monkey King called Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong is a Taoist celestial being who became really wild whom the Buddha pacified. However, it was really Kuan Yin who paved the way for Sun Wukong to be a Buddha. She did this out of her extreme compassion for Sun Wukong who at that time was already condemned for an eternal imprisonment. Kuan Yin did this not just for Sun Wukong but also for other immortals. Westerners largely look at this story as some sort of fantasy, but to Taoist and Chinese Buddhist they have high regard for the said story and believe it actually happened in the celestial world. However, the point here is not whether the story is true or not, but it hopes to illustrate the depth of Kuan Yin’s mercy and compassion that she was able to subdue one of the most powerful Taoist Immortal/Deity. It should be noted that it was implied in the story mentioned above that should Kuan Yin had to ‘fight’ with Sun Wukong, her power would not have match that of Sun Wukong. However, her real power is not with her strength as a Bodhisattva, although, I must clarify, she is very powerful, but more than her physical and celestial strength, is the power of her mercy and compassion that is said to be infinite!kuan-yin21

However, Kuan Yin or Kuan Shi Yin (Guan Shi Yin) which means ‘The One Who Hears the Cries of the World” has a very unique transformation. Kuan Yin is Avalokitesvara in India and Cherezig in Tibet. Nevertheless, Kuan Yin is the female transformation of the said Bodhisattva. I need not talk about who Avalokitesvara in detail now because Kuan Yin is Avalokitesvara (also spelled as Avalokiteshvara), Avalokitesvara is Chenrezig, Chenrezig is Kuan Yin, they may have different names, and in the case of Kuan Yin she may have a different image but they’re one and the same. All the attributes of Kuan Yin are that of Avalokitesvara and Chenrezig, all the attributes of Avalokitesvara and Chenrezig is that of Kuan Yin!

Nevertheless, allow me to state that Kuan Yin in the form of Avalokitesvara first started in India, the land where Buddhism really started. He/She is a Bodhisattva, which is traditionally considered a little less important compared to the Buddhas. However, Avalokitesvara gained reverence equal to that of Buddhas and to some extent, specially amongst Chinese Buddhist, exceeds that of the Buddhas because as the Historical Buddha Sakyamuni himself shared through various sutras, Avalokitesvara should have been a Buddha already, however, he refused Buddhahood and wished to remain a Bodhisattva for the welfare of all sentient beings.

The transformation of Avalokitesvara to Kuan Yin is in itself a very interesting story. There are various stories about how Avalokitesvara became Kuan Yin.Kuan Yin2

One story is that in relation to Tripitaka Monk Xuan Zang who traveled to India to get some Buddhist texts that he can share with his countrymen. When he wrote about his journey he always refers to the Bodhisattva of Compassion as a female Kuan Yin, some people believes that this is one of the first time that Avalokitesvara is addressed as Kuan Shi Yin, which later was shortened into Kuan Yin. In his account of the manifestations of Kuan Yin she always appear as a miraculous being and always under miraculous circumstances.

Another story is that of Princess Miao Shan. I’ll skip the story at the moment, and I’ll share her story as written in Wikipedia at the bottom of this post.

Still, another story about Avalokitesvara’s transformation to Kuan Yin is quite simple and not as popular because it lacks the theatrical and flair of the other stories.

When Buddhism was first introduced to China, the religion is largely Taoism, which has Immortals or Deities that are very powerful and ‘masculine’. The compassionate deities and immortals are mostly female deities. Because of this the Chinese had difficulty in fully comprehending the attributes of Avalokitesvara.

Buddhist monks prayed to Kuan Yin to ask for her guidance. Some text says that Kuan Yin spoke to some Buddhist monks through their dreams and instructed them to introduce him as Kuan Yin with a female form. Other text states that they were able to divine this through an Avalokitesvara/Kuan Yin oracle. Whether it was through a dream or through an oracle, it was clear that the Buddhist monks who brought Buddhism to China started the female manifestation of Avalokitesvara. As we know this image became popularly known as Kuan Yin.

This raises the question as to why when experiencing Avalokitesvara’s miracle or vision, people see her as Kuan Yin. According to the explanation of a Chinese Buddhist monk, this is because Avalokitesvara will always appear in the form that people will understand or easily relate to.

I personally believe that the last story is the real reason why Avalokitesvara became Kuan Yin. It is because they need to put an image of mercy and compassion, and because of this Avalokitesvara transformed into Kuan Yin.

Avalokitesvara as Kuan Yin became so popular that even Tibetan Buddhist who is extremely familiar with Avalokitesvara, as a male Bodhisattva would still mention Kuan Yin. In fact, the biggest image of Avalokitesvara in the world is that of Kuan Yin which is found China.

This also answers why some images of Kuan Yin depicts her as a flat-chested handsome young prince.

kuanyin1

One of the semi-masculine form of Kuan Yin.

If you’re interested to know about the Legend of Princess Miao Shan please read on the following that was lifted from Wikipedia.

Another story from the Precious Scroll of Fragrant Mountain describes an incarnation of Guanyin as the daughter of a cruel king who wanted her to marry a wealthy but uncaring man. The story is usually ascribed to the research of the Buddhist monk Chiang Chih-ch’i during the 11th century CE. The story is likely to have a Taoist origin. Chiang Chih-ch’i, when he penned the work, believed that the Guanyin we know today was actually a Buddhist princess called Miaoshan (妙善), who had a religious following on Fragrant Mountain. Despite this there are many variants of the story in Chinese mythology.

According to the story, after the king asked his daughter Miao Shan to marry the wealthy man, she told him that she would obey his command, so long as the marriage eased three misfortunes.

The king asked his daughter what were the three misfortunes that the marriage should ease. Miaoshan explained that the first misfortune the marriage should ease was the suffering people endure as they age. The second misfortune it should ease was the suffering people endure when they fall ill. The third misfortune it should ease was the suffering caused by death. If the marriage could not ease any of the above, then she would rather retire to a life of religion forever.

When her father asked who could ease all the above, Miao Shan pointed out that a doctor was able to do all of these.

Her father grew angry as he wanted her to marry a person of power and wealth, not a healer. He forced her into hard labor and reduced her food and drink but this did not cause her to yield.

Every day she begged to be able to enter a temple and become a nun instead of marrying. Her father eventually allowed her to work in the temple, but asked the monks to give her the toughest chores in order to discourage her. The monks forced Miao Shan to work all day and all night, while others slept, in order to finish her work. However, she was such a good person that the animals living around the temple began to help her with her chores. Her father, seeing this, became so frustrated that he attempted to burn down the temple. Miao Shan put out the fire with her bare hands and suffered no burns. Now struck with fear, her father ordered her to be put to death.

In one version of this legend, when Guanyin was executed, a supernatural tiger took her to one of the more hell-like realms of the dead. However, instead of being punished by demons like the other inmates, Guanyin played music, and flowers blossomed around her. This completely surprised the head demon. The story says that Guanyin, by merely being in that hell, turned it into a paradise.

A variant of the legend says that Miao Shan allowed herself to die at the hand of the executioner. According to this legend, as the executioner tried to carry out her father’s orders, his axe shattered into a thousand pieces. He then tried a sword which likewise shattered. He tried to shoot Miao Shan down with arrows but they all veered off.

Finally in desperation he used his hands. Miao Shan, realising the fate that the executioner would meet at her father’s hand should she fail to let herself die, forgave the executioner for attempting to kill her. It is said that she voluntarily took on the massive karmic guilt the executioner generated for killing her, thus leaving him guiltless. It is because of this that she descended into the Hell-like realms. While there, she witnessed first-hand the suffering and horrors that the beings there must endure, and was overwhelmed with grief. Filled with compassion, she released all the good karma she had accumulated through her many lifetimes, thus freeing many suffering souls back into Heaven and Earth. In the process, that Hell-like realm became a paradise. It is said that Yanluo, King of Hell, sent her back to Earth to prevent the utter destruction of his realm, and that upon her return she appeared on Fragrant Mountain.

Another tale says that Miao Shan never died, but was in fact transported by a supernatural tiger, believed to be the Deity of the Place, to Fragrant Mountain.

The Legend of Miao Shan usually ends with Miao Chuang Yen, Miao Shan’s father, falling ill with jaundice. No physician was able to cure him. Then a monk appeared saying that the jaundice could be cured by making a medicine out of the arm and eye of one without anger. The monk further suggested that such a person could be found on Fragrant Mountain. When asked, Miao Shan willingly offered up her eyes and arms. Miao Chuang Yen was cured of his illness and went to the Fragrant Mountain to give thanks to the person. When he discovered that his own daughter had made the sacrifice, he begged for forgiveness. The story concludes with Miaoshan being transformed into the Thousand Armed Guanyin, and the king, queen and her two sisters building a temple on the mountain for her. She began her journey to heaven and was about to cross over into heaven when she heard a cry of suffering from the world below. She turned around and saw the massive suffering endured by the people of the world. Filled with compassion, she returned to Earth, vowing never to leave till such time as all suffering has ended.

After her return to Earth, Guanyin was said to have stayed for a few years on the island of Mount Putuo where she practised meditation and helped the sailors and fishermen who got stranded. Guanyin is frequently worshipped as patron of sailors and fishermen due to this. She is said to frequently becalm the sea when boats are threatened with rocks. After some decades Guanyin returned to Fragrant Mountain to continue her meditation.

The Darker Part of the Year Base on the 2017 Bazi Chart Has Started!

Published Oktubre 4, 2017 by jptan2012

I think most, if not all, Feng Shui experts or Feng Shui writers or Feng Shui consultants (whether commercialized or not) agrees that we have officially entered the darker part of THE the year base on the 2017 bazi chart (paht chee chart). Regular readers of this blog will remember that I have written about this during my annual forecast.

First, I wrote that a ‘calamity’ will happen on the 3rd quarter of the year or it may start to happen at around the third quarter and we will start to feel its effect towards the 4th quarter or next year. Please note that I’m talking about the 3rd quarter to 4th quarter of the lunar month and not of the Western Calendar that we regularly use officially.

Just recently, internationally famous Feng Shui expert Lillian Too has announced that we have entered the darker part of the year. My Feng Shui teacher in Hong Kong has said the same thing and furthermore, my Guru Lama has said the energies of the year have since become more negative.

Last Hungry Ghost month, which was in the 3rd quarter of the Lunar Month, saw the calamities and typhoons that struck different countries. I have written about this but failed to mention that it happened also in Nepal, India and other countries. It also happened recently in Puerto Rico, which was at the tail end of the Hungry Ghost month, but the real tragedy is that the POTUS refused to help them and became more concerned about trivial matter.

Rohingya Muslims persecutions has also become worst and might have reached it’s peak during the Hungry Ghost month.

In the Philippines, politically speaking we are in a turmoil. I don’t want to be political on this blog, but if you base it on the bazi chart and what my Guru Lama is saying, something bad has started to brew and will see it’s effect soon, which is towards the end of the year or early next year.

What is important now, regardless of your political belief or affiliation, is for you to think beyond yourself and think for this country or for this world. And I’m saying this not just for the Filipinos but also for everybody who reads regardless of whether where you live. Remember, there is brewing war that involves North Korea – USA – Japan. This war is not a matter of ‘if’ but rather of ‘when’. And the truth is it has started on a more discreet level.

Again, generally speaking a good leader is somebody who unifies rather than one who is divisive. A good leader accepts that there will be opposition and embrace it as part of it’s growth, and not somebody who tries to attack and silence those who attack him or her. A good leader is somebody who sticks to the facts and not makes up stories to malign those who oppose him or her. A good leader doesn’t come up with false stories just because he or she knows that there are people who are blind followers.

But it is time for us to get out of our own comfort zone because we have to share the truth; each of us has to do that in our own way. And we should all start praying that things will get better. We can oppose these dark energies with prayers.

On a personal level, money matters might become harder thus my Guru Lama decided to release the VAISRAVANA – DZAMBHALA WEALTH AMULET (1), and on top of that one should always protect oneself with good deeds, prayers, and amulets.

While we should be more concern on the macro effects of the dark energies that has come in, it is not to say that this will not have any effect on us on a personal level. As mentioned, on a personal level the effect will be mostly financial, although it might have some effect on communication and personal relationships as well. Furthermore, it will have an effect on our personal safety. It is important that one continues to pray and save some money. Again protect yourself, wear your gold Kalachakra pendant, or Vajrapani Ruel, or even the Vaisravana – Dzambhala Wealth Amulet, the Illness Suppression Amulet. If you don’t have these, you can wear an image of Bodhisattva Earth Store (aka Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva), Bodhisattva Kuan Yin (also spelled or called as Kuan Shi Yin, Quan Shi Yin, Quan Yin, Guan Shi Yin, Guan Yin, Avalokitesvara, Chenrezig, Kannon, Bodhisattva of Compassion, Goddess of Mercy), or Buddha Amitabha, or Medicine Buddha.

Protect Yourself from the Combined Effects of the Total Solar Eclipse and the Hungry Ghost Month!

Published Agosto 21, 2017 by jptan2012

Today is the eve of the Hungry Ghost Month for 2017 and also today we will have one of the ‘greatest’ total solar eclipse, which ironically speaking a lot of people are excited to see.

While like all Hungry Ghost Month we will all have to take extra careful and precaution. I have discussed this several times every year, so I will not go into detail about it, but if you are new to Feng Shui or just have started reading this blog, please do check out the links at the end of this article to know more about the Hungry Ghost Month (aka Ghost Month) and the Hungry Ghost Festival (aka Ghost Festival).

There are years that the negative effects of the Ghost Month are particularly stronger, superficially, base on the Flying Stars Formula of the year, this year the case is not like of that last year, but because of the Total Solar Eclipse happening today, the statement that this year’s Hungry Ghost Month is not particularly stronger is no longer true.

Today a Total Solar Eclipse will happen. It will more visibly seen in some parts of America, but as I have said in previous posts, when a Total Solar Eclipse happens, or when an eclipse happens it really doesn’t matter whether you see the effect of it on your country or not, it just doesn’t matter, when an eclipse happens it affects the world and it affects every country, and it affects all of us if we haven’t taken the time out to protect ourselves.

First, during the eclipse, and the time varies from one continent to another (so check it out on Google) one has stay inside. Go into your house or office even if it’s evening in your country, it is better to stay indoor. Make sure you wear your protective amulets, for this one I particularly more assured with the Vajrapani Ruel or gold Kalachakra pendant, or a gold pendant image of the Bodhisattva of Compassion – Kuan Yin (also spelled or called Guan Yin, Guan Shi Yin, Kuan Shi Yin, Avalokitesvara, Kannon, Goddess of Mercy, Buddha of Compassion), or a gold pendant image of Amitabha Buddha. If you don’t have any of these, chanting mantras should also help. You can chant the following mantras repeatedly until after the total solar eclipse:

Mantra of Buddha Amitabha: OM AMI DEWA HRIH

Mantra of Bodhisattva Vajrapani: OM VAJRAPANI HUM

The Protection Mantra of Deity Kalachakra: OM AH HUMS HO HAM KSHAMALA VARAYA HUM PHAT

Chant all the mantra 108x each one after the other; repeat the process until the total solar eclipse has ended.

A number of Feng Shui experts believe that the Total Solar Eclipse happening on the eve of the Hungry Ghost Month is either a precursor to bad things happening worldwide or with several countries or it maybe enhancing to the things that are already happening. By enhancing it refers to enhancing the negative things.

Furthermore, on a more personal level it may signify financial loss or health and safety issues during the Hungry Ghost Month. And regular readers of this blog know that my stand is always better being safe than sorry.

The 2017 HUNGRY GHOST MONTH (2017 GHOST MONTH) starts on August 22, 2017 and ends on September 19, 2017. The 2017 HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL (2017 GHOST FESTIVAL) is on September 5, 2017.

Marital Problem Fixed, Financial Problem Solved with the Unexpected Coming In of a Huge Amount of Money / Problem with Bank Loan Reversed: Two Personal Testimonies of Two Readers with Two Different Sources of Miracles! – And Why Do I Write About Miraculous Personal Testimonies?

Published Pebrero 1, 2017 by jptan2012

If there’s one thing that my experienced with Feng Shui and with my belief in (mainly) Buddhism and Taoism, is that MIRACLES DO HAPPEN! And it happens more often than we realize, it is just a matter of being able to recognize it.

I have so many miraculous stories to share, however, I simply don’t have enough time to write them all, on top of it, I will only share miracles that has been shared with me, either in whole or in part thru sms or email, this is so that I have something to show my readers the authenticity of the stories. Before, in order to protect the identity of my readers, I would not share their names and would only put initials. However, I realized I can share their first name and block out some of the important details to prove their identity, and lately if you notice those are the only personal testimonies that I share.

Anyway, today I would like to share with you not one but two personal testimonies of two different readers. I would have wanted to write about it separately but there are so much more things to write about, and truth be told I don’t think you will be happy if I simply write about miraculous personal testimonies of my readers.

But we all have a lesson to learn from these personal testimonies. It is not simply about the Vajrapani Ruel(1), or the Illness Suppression Amulet(1), or any amulet that I happened to write about, but it is about the experiences of readers who like a lot of you may be going through some problems in life. The problems may be personal that has something to do with relationships like your family or your longing for a partner in life. It can be about your personal growth, it can be about your career. It can be about money or the lack of it. What you are going through right now may be unique, but at the bottom of it, the root is basically the same for most people, and so from their stories we all learn something. And most of all, we are given hope that there is something else that we can do.

Such is the case of Grace. I met Grace because of her sister Mercy who is reader and a believer of Feng Shui. According to Mercy her life while she can still hope for something better is actually fine, and when I wrote about the Traditional Sutra Amulets (1)(Diamond Sutra and The Sutra On the Past Vows of Earth Store Bodhisattva) she just felt an affinity with it. Something seems to tell her that she should get it, even though technically speaking the Traditional Sutra Amulet(2) (TSA) is actually a Buddhist religious item and not a Feng Shui item and Mercy is a Catholic. Furthermore, she felt that she should also get one for her sister, Grace, who is actually going through a bad patch in her life.

According to Mercy, her sister Grace got separated from her husband about a year ago, and while Grace and her husband felt that they still love each other, the meddling of the in – laws (mostly the parents of Grace’s husband’s parents) is making things difficult. Grace’s husband is the only son. On top of that, Grace’s business is having some financial problems; she is in danger of losing her business, something that she has strived to build for more than ten years now.

sutra-amulets

These are just one copy each of the very limited copies sent to me by my Guru Lama of the THE SUTRA OF THE PAST VOWS OF THE KSITIGARBHA BODHISATTVA, THE DIAMOND OF PERFECT WISDOM SUTRA and THE MEDICINE BUDDHA SUTRA. Sutras are also used as very powerful amulets, that is why you will often old Buddhist Chinese houses has a copy of the Sutra on their altar though they might not be reciting the sutra itself.

Mercy decided to get 2 copies of the TSA, she’ll give one copy to Grace. When I met Mercy, Grace tagged along. She obviously wasn’t a believer and it became apparent when she repeatedly questioned me as to how do the TSA’s work and why are they so pricey. I patiently answered all her questions and told her that technically speaking they are not paying for the TSA, which she calls book amulet, but rather the money goes to either feeding of the monks or images of the Buddha or Bodhisattva. I clearly remembered that she said well hope that her sister is shelling out for would not go to ‘statues’ but rather to the feeding of monks or ‘better yet to hungry even if they are not from the temple’. During our conversation, she subtly but repeatedly discouraged Mercy to get all TSAs, both THE DIAMOND SUTRA and THE SUTRA ON THE PAST VOWS OF EARTH STORE BODHISATTVA.

I met them last December, I think it was in the first week of December, and I didn’t hear from them again, not until a few days ago when Grace sent me a message. Apparently, she the non – believe experienced a wonderful miracle, which she attributes to the Traditional Sutra Amulet. Mercy clarified that while she hasn’t had a great miracle she feels that everything seems to be going smoother now.

image1

Translation for first Filipino Sentence: I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING ELSE… Translation of the Second & Third Filipino Sentence: Maybe you noticed that I was bugging you with all those question because I really don’t believe in Feng Shui. But now I’m a believer.

Going back to Grace. When I talked to her on the phone she said that maybe her first miracle was when she and her husband decided to patch things up last Christmas, and they went back to living together again this January. She said at that time she just ignored it and thought maybe it was really just their love that brought them together (and I sort of agree with her, it really is there love that brought them back together). But then a second miracle happened.

image3

She has a business that should have been doing really well, however, her biggest competitions are the bigger companies that has bigger financial capital thus being able to lower their prices because they can buy things by the bulk and get the items lower and in turn they can pass it on to the consumers at the lower price also. In order to be able to compete with them and in order to survive she needs a big boost on her finances. Her husband’s business while stable is not the liquid to be able to help her, and while her family tried to help, she knows that what they can afford to give her is not enough to help ensure that she will survive the big competitors. At that time that she was given the TSA she was already contemplating shifting to another smaller business or closing it down.

When she and her husband got back together, her husband had a heart – to – heart and man – to – man talk with his father, Grace’s father – in – law. He told him that their meddling with his family is the cause of their marital problem. He also told them the truth that for years, they have treated Grace unfairly, especially his mother who has been quite harsh and critical of whatever Grace do. Surprisingly, the father accepted his mistake and told his son that he will talk to his wife also. At that time Grace’s husband also mentioned the problem of Grace’s business.

image2

According to Grace that she initially doesn’t believe in the Traditional Sutra Amulet (which she call Book Amulet) but because it was pricey she decided to simply follow my instruction and decided to ‘dump’ it behind the images of her Catholic saints.

After getting back together, Grace’s father – in – law paid them a visit. Her mother – in – law didn’t go with him because she is feeling sour that she was partly ‘blamed’ for what happened to Grace and her husband. But Grace’s father – in – law apologized for how they treated Grace and he also offered to finance the expansion of Grace’s business to make it more competitive!!! Of course, Grace initially said no. But the father – in – law actually said that he would take offense if Grace refuses to accept the money. Best of all when Grace had her lawyer come up with an agreement stating as to when she will pay the ‘loan’ the father – in – law tore it up and told her to pay only when able, and that he will consider it as a payment if Grace will cook for them once a week. Grace said this is funny because they used to criticize, especially the mother – in – law, Grace’s cooking. But Grace said she would be more than happy to do that. What is nice here is that Grace never harbored any ill – feeling towards her in – laws because she understands that they felt like she ‘stole’ their son from them.

Grace considers this as a miracle because of the following:

  1. Although a lot of the ‘bullying’ came from her mother – in – law, her father – in – law is a traditional Chinese patriarch and will never humble himself for the younger generation.
  2. The father – in – law believes that Grace shouldn’t be working, much less having her own business. He feels that she should just help her husband in his business and their family business.
  3. His father – in – law whose money is all hard – earned was never ‘generous’ with money.

Before we ended our conversation, Grace said maybe her mother – in – law would be a future miracle.

Similarly, another reader also shared another miracle. Evelyn is a mother of 4 children and is a wife of an Overseas Filipino Worker. I have met Evelyn once and I simply love the ‘energy’ of kindness and love that she exudes.

Evelyn’s eldest child, his son, lives in Australia. I believe he is doing quite well in Australia. And he recently decided to get his very own home. He applied for a bank loan, but even before he got the approval of his bank loan he decided to pay give the non – refundable down payment to the said house. I believe that the down was a substantial amount.

Then comes the bad news from the bank. It seems like there seems to be a minor technicality and he might not get the loan. This is not an option because he already made a down and it is non – refundable.

Evelyn contacted me to ask for help in terms of what mantras to chant to help his son get the loan from the bank. I gave her the mantras. And he waiting started. I suppose it’s an excruciating, heart – pounding wait for them. But in the end the good news is that he got the loan!

Evelyn absolutely believes that they got it because of the power of the mantras. This is such a simple but profound miracle only because Evelyn’s son savings and better future is at stake her.

Two different miracles, two different channel (one is an amulet and the other one is the chanting of mantras)! Why did I decide to write these two miracles in one article?

This is to show that it’s not all about amulets. Mantras will also work as well, and it works best if you have faith and you sincerely do it and pouring in some love will make it more powerful.

We cannot deny that amulets like the Vajrapani Ruel(2), the Traditional Sutra Amulet(3), the Illness Suppression Amulet(2), etc. are an essential part of Buddhism, Taoism, and Feng Shui. We cannot deny that they work. We cannot deny that sometimes it is essential to have them. We cannot deny that things may work faster to our favor if we have them. But we also cannot deny and has to acknowledge that even without amulets we can still get the things that we aspire for. That’s what the mantras are for. Or that’s why we have the power of the prayers as easy as that!

But remember, whether it is thru amulets, mantras, or prayers, that miracles sometimes doesn’t come in a way we want it to be, or in a way we expect it to be. As I always say we should expect miracles, but do not dictate it!

Chant – A – Mantra (3b): Daily Mantras to Chant – The 4 Main Bodhisattvas of Chinese Buddhism!

Published Hulyo 12, 2016 by jptan2012

In the preceding post, I briefly talked about the importance of chanting mantras daily. Sometimes, chanting mantras takes getting used to and the more we do it, the more we get used to it, the more it is easier for us to learn new mantras. But more than that, chanting mantras should be considered like taking vitamins, we have to take it everyday for us to build resistance, and in this case resistance to negative chi. Furthermore, aside from building resistance to negative chi or negative energies, chanting mantras daily makes us more attuned to the cosmic energy of the Buddhas or Bodhisattvas whose mantra we are chanting, not to mention it makes more attuned to the cosmic energy in general.

While we won’t be able to recite the entire mantras daily, because some of them are long and there are really a lot of mantras available for us. Chanting daily mantras of selected Buddhas or Bodhisattvas will also make us, as mentioned earlier, more attuned with the cosmic energy, to the divine cosmic energy of the world of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, in such a manner that when we have to chant a specific mantra for a specific purpose, because we already have a ‘relationship’ with the divine cosmic energy, it is easier for us to be attuned to the energy of the new mantra we are chanting, even this is for only a specific purpose.

Yesterday, I shared with you the initial list of the mantras I chant daily. Namely of the 3 main Buddhas of our time and they are Amitabha Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha (Sakyamuni Buddha) and the only celestial Buddha among the three, Medicine Buddha.

Note: Medicine Buddha is the simplified name. Medicine Buddha’s formal name is Bhaisajya – guru – vaidūrya – prabhā – raja or King of Medicine Master and Lapis Lazuli Light. His Tibetan common name is Bhaisajyaguru.

Today, allow me to share with you the other mantras that I chant everyday. They are 4 Main Buddha of Chinese Buddhism, especially for Pure Land Buddhism and Zen Buddhism.

Note: Zen Buddhism although has Japanese name actually started in China. It’s the English-speaking world that ‘popularized’ Zen Buddhism, but in reality it is called Chan Buddhism.

THE 4 MAIN BODHISATTVAS WHOSE MANTRAS I CHANT EVERYDAY ARE THE FOLLOWING:kuan Yin3 white

  1. NAMO DA PEI KWAN SHI YIN PU SA & OM MANI PADME HUM (Mantra of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Kuan Yin) – Kuan Yin (also known as Avalokitesvara, Kannon, and also spelled as Guan Yin, Kwan Yin, Gwan Yin) is more popularly known as the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Sometime people also refer to her as the Buddha of Compassion (although she is not a Buddha) or Goddess of Mercy (although she is also not a Goddess). I have written about Kuan Yin Bodhisattva many times, so I will put the link to those articles below. But it should be noted that perhaps Kuan Yin Bodhisattva is perhaps the most famous and most revered Bodhisattva in all lineage and school of Buddhism. She has become so famous that even the Taoist has adopted her as one of their Goddess. I personally make sure that I always chant her mantra. You can read more about Kuan Yin Bodhisattva by clicking on the links below:

  • NAMO DA YUAN DI ZHANG WANG PU SA and OM AH KSTIGARBHA THALENG HUM and OM PRA MANI DANI SOHA (Mantra of the Bodhisattva of Great Vow, Ksitigarbha) – Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is known to have committed to the Buddha that he will not enter Buddhahood unless he has freed all sentient beings from hell or from being a hungry ghost. This is his great vow. Chanting his mantra will help ensure that we are freed from suffering and help ensure a good rebirth. To under stand Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva better please read: Ksitigarbha Buddha is a Bodhisattva Who Vowed to Help All Those Who Suffer in Hell and In this World.

    Samantabhadra

    Bodhisattva Samantabhadra

  1. NAMO DA XING PU XIAN PU SA and OM AH HUM AH A KAR SA LE OD A YANG OM DU (Mantra of the Bodhisattva of Great Conduct, Samantabhadra) – Samantabhadra Bodhisattva is a Bodhisattva known for her great conduct. She is also known as the Bodhisattva of Truth, because it is her sincerest desire the real truth be exposed does she has the famous TEN GREAT VOWS OF BODHISATTVA SAMANTABHADRA, where in each item of those vows has something to do with the permanent truth of Buddhism.

    manjushri_buddhist_god_of_wisdom_eq03

Manjushri is a disciple of Sakyamuni Buddha. He is also a great Bodhisattva.

  1. NAMO DA ZHI WUN SHU SHI LI PU SA and OM A RA PA CHA NA DHI (Mantra of the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, Manjushri) – Manjushri Bodhisattva (also spelled as Manjushree) is a Bodhisattva known for his commitment to make all sentient beings attained the perfect wisdom or full enlightenment. He is usually depicted holding a sword and a sutra book. The sword represents the slashing of false knowledge, and the sutra book represents that we are only able to attained perfect wisdom with the help of the sutra or words of the Historical Buddha, Shakyamuni. Chanting the mantra of Bodhisattva Manjushri will help us attain wisdom and guide us in making our daily decisions.

So you see, aside from the mantras of the 3 main Buddhas of our time, I also chant the mantras of the 4 main Bodhisattvas of Chinese Buddhism. But that’s not all, in my succeeding posts, I will share with you the other mantras I chant everyday.

Kuan Yin Miracles: Proof that Miracles Do Happen With or Without Amulets! (Part 3)

Published Hunyo 29, 2015 by jptan2012

Kuan Yin2As I said in the first two parts of this series the Kuan Yin Miracles stories are being shared because I want to stress the point that as much as Buddhist amulets like the very much coveted Vajrapani Ruel are powerful tools to have to help us tap into the blessings of the Buddhas or Bodhisattvas, one need not have them to experience their wonderful and amazing power.

The first two of this series was shared with me by a Zen Master and this next story was shared with me by a dear friend.

CL is the eldest of 4 children. He was also brought up as a Catholic Christian, but has mentally converted to Buddhism because he felt that it was Buddhism who was able to answer some of his pressing questions about suffering.

The very first thing he learned about Buddhism are Karma and Buddha himself, but when he heard about the story of Kuan Yin he seem to have felt some affinity with the Bodhisattva of Compassion, so much so that he started wearing an image of Kuan Yin Bodhisattva.

One day, when he was working in his office, all of a sudden they experienced a power outage. Thinking that it was a normal brownout, they decided to ignore it. CL is working on the 11th floor of a 12 – storey high building. He and his officemates ignored the power outage, and continued working with the help of the sunlight coming in from their office windows.Kuan Yin

After a while they started hearing sirens from a fire truck and they wondered as to where the fire is, but generally ignored it. But then, his officemate got a call from one of their colleagues. This particular colleague was out of the office for some errand and was just returning from work. Apparently, CL’s office building was on fire which started a floor below from CL’s office, which is on the 10th floor. They didn’t notice the smoke because the fire was on the other side of the building. Furthermore, as what appeared in the investigation afterwards, the fire alarm system of the building didn’t worked.

When they were informed of the fire, that’s when they noticed the smoke coming in from beneath the floor. His other officemate made the mistake of opening the door, and soon their office was also on fire. Meanwhile, their colleagues who were downstairs informed the fire fighters that some people where still in the 101th floor. Their ladder was unable to reach the 11th floor, but CL and his officemates were instructed to get break the glass of one of the windows, and there is a fire escape ladder just outside of it. They did as they were instructed.

Maybe they were in a panic, or maybe it is because it was an old building and the fire escape ladder has never been used and was so rusty that they’re unable to push it down. Furthermore, only one person can step out of the window to fire escape ladder because more than one would also put them in danger of falling off the building. By this time, everybody was already scared, and some felt hopeless. They were 8 of them in the office, which is already on fire. Out of desperation, CL fervently called on Kuan Yin to help, and started chanting Kuan Yin’s name. CL can’t be sure, but he thinks on the third time he called on Kuan Yin’s name, the fire in their office seems to have simply been blown out by a strong wind, and at the same time, the guy in the fire escape ladder said that he was able to successfully pushed the ladder down.kuan yin 5

To make the long story short, they were all able to escape without any injury, aside from being really shaken, and for a brief check – up to ensure that they are all fine and had not suffered any damaged because of smoke inhalation.

CL firmly believes that it was Kuan Yin who helped them escaped that day!

Kuan Yin Miracles: Proof that Miracles Do Happen With or Without Amulets! (Part 2)

Published Hunyo 28, 2015 by jptan2012

kuan yin 4bIn my previous post, I said I’d be sharing three different Kuan Yin miracles stories. The first of these two stories are shared with me by a Zen Master, while the last account is something that I personally heard from the one who experienced it.

I wanted to share these amazing stories to help people realize that although I believe in the power of wearing Buddhist amulets like the Vajrapani Ruel, I still believe that miracles can still happen with or without them.

In the first part of this series, I shared the story of DY and that of her helper. How somebody who doesn’t even know Kuan Yin Bodhisattva, at the time of her extreme need was able to get the Bodhisattva’s help.

Today, allow me to share another wonderful Kuan Yin miracle story. This happened in Oklahoma. As most people in the US would know, Oklahoma is usually visited by strong tornadoes. In one of the strongest tornado that hit the place, a mother and her son experienced the compassionate miracle of Kuan Yin Bodhisattva.tornado

I don’t know their names, so for purposes of this post we will call the mom KB, short for Kuan Yin believer. KB is is an American who attends a Buddhist class in Oklahoma, where he found out about Kuan YIn.

Being a single mom, KB was naturally very busy in trying to earn a living and in raising her son, because of this she missed out in monitoring the warning issued for one of the worst tornado to hit Oklahoma. It was already too late and she was unable to run to safety when she found out about the tornado, and she can already felt it’s force. She can do nothing else but embrace her 4 year – old son and call out for help to Kuan Yin Bodhisattva. However, all of a sudden she felt her son being pulled away from her by the strong wind and she lost consciousness.kuan Yin3 white

KB woke up in the hospital, and when her doctor, who happens to be somebody she knows as well, saw her the first thing that the doctor told her was that she’s very lucky because she was found several blocks away from her house, and aside from minor injuries she is perfectly fine. She was also told that her house was flattened, and that she need not worry about her son because her son is in the other room.

KB went to see her son to see how he was doing even though her doctor and friend had informed her that her son was doing fine. That’s when she heard from her son what really happened.

According to KB’s son, when they were pulled apart, a woman in white appeared and carried them off to safety, after which this woman fought with the tornado and won. The story in the eyes of the 4 – year – old boy is quite simple, but KB firmly believes in her heart, that the woman in white is no other than Kuan Yin Bodhisattava, which is oftenly portrayed as a lady in white.

So remember powerful amulets such as the Vajrapani Ruel are tools, you can still experience amazing miracles even if you don’t have the Vajrapani Ruel as long as you have faith.
