Some Easy Ways to Cook and Eat Nian Gao or Tikoy!

Published Pebrero 1, 2016 by jptan2012

In my preceding post I talked about the importance of having the Chinese New Year Sticky Rice Cake more popularly called as Nian Gao or Tikoy here in the Philippines. Today, allow me some simple ways to cook it.

One of the most common ways of cooking it is by dipping it in egg and frying it a little. It really just takes a few moments because the Nian Gao or Tikoy is already cooking in the first place.

Second way of cooking it is by wrapping it on a Lumpia wrapper then frying it. You might opt to put a little sugar. But I personally think putting a little more sugar makes it really sweet.

Third way of cooking it is by wrapping it on a Lumpia wrapper and adding a little slice of cheddar cheese. I like this a lot. This one tastes really good.

Fourth way of cooking it is by wrapping it on a Lumpia wrapper and adding a small slice of fruits like strawberry, jackfruit, and mango.

Fifth way of cooking it is by mixing it with some coconut milk, just like Ginataan bilo – bilo. For non – Filipinos who are reading this please Google Ginataan. This is one of the best way of eating a Nian Gao or Tikoy.

Display Nian Gao or Tikoy On the Eve of Chinese New Year and Eat It The Day After Chinese New Year!

People have been asking me what are some of the Chinese New Year ritual that one can do. In our household, although, unfortunately because I’m working on my book and had to work closely with my publisher and editor in Kuala Lumpur I might not be able to spend Chinese New Year at home this year, we always have Nian Gao or what is more popularly known as Tikoy here in the Philippines.

When I first learned about Feng Shui, I have always insisted and made sure that we will have Tikoy or Nian Gao (the Chinese New Year Sticky Rice Cake) on our table, because I remember that the very first thing that my Feng Shui teacher in Hong Kong, and the one in Singapore said is to always make sure there is Nian Gao on the table on the eve of Chinese New Year and to eat it a day after Chinese New Year.

Why?

This is because a Tikoy or Nian Gao with it’s round shape symbolizes perfect Man’s Luck, one of the Luck in the Three Lucks of Feng Shui, namely Heaven’s Luck, Man’s Luck, and Earth’s Luck. Furthermore, because a Nian Gao when uncooked (the one that we buy on the store is already cooked, we just cook it again by frying it), is a little smaller than when it is cook, so it symbolizes prosperity. Lastly, it’s stickiness symbolizes harmony.

Having this on the table on the eve of Chinese New Year, which this year happens on February 8, 2016 and all through Chinese New Year, then eating them after Chinese New Year is a symbolic way of enhancing your Man’s Luck, creating prosperity and harmony.

2016 Year of the Fire Monkey Water and Flower Ritual

Published Enero 20, 2016 by jptan2012

If you have read my 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey Feng Shui Forecast, you would know by now that the year extremely lacks the element of Water. And so today allow me to share a short ritual that you can do on the eve of Chinese New Year. This ritual will help ensure that you symbolically create the presence of the water element and thus provide some buffer or slight relief from the full effects of not having a the water element. However, it should noted that depending on your bazi chart, this is not a replacement for wearing a blue stone or semi – precious stone bracelet.

Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year this year is on February 8. So on February 7 gather a big jar of water, about a gallon, fill it up with clean water and place petals from 8 kinds of flowers. Do not use flowers with thorns like rose.

On the eve of the Chinese New Year at around 4pm, collect the water and put the petals in. Leave it in front of your altar, if you don’t have one, put it at the center of your house. Then the following day, on Lunar New Year, before 8AM sprinkle the water around your house. You can also sprinkle a little with member of your family. Pour the remaining water on your garden or a plant together with water.

Voila! This simple ritual should ease some of the effects of the missing water element.

Again to better understand the 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey it will be good to read all the forecast. I know it is quite long but it is important for you to see the big picture.

The Energies of the 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey Comes In As Early As This January 2015!

Published Enero 13, 2016 by jptan2012

Regular readers of this blog know that I always say that the energies of the year don’t come in until Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year. However, this year is different. The chart shows that the energy of the 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey comes in early. According to a reader who studied Feng Shui under another Feng Shui master said that this particular Feng Shui said that the energies of the 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey has started to come in as early as October of 2015. I think to some extent he may be right but this might be limited to the energy of the Fire.

But as for the rest of the energies, I believe they have started to come in this January with the bulk of it coming in by January 15 of the Western Calendar. So it is better to rearrange your cures and wear your cures by then.

Again to better understand the 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey it will be good to read all the forecast. I know it is quite long but it is important for you to see the big picture.

Sutra & Mantra Retreat and Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual!

Published Nobyembre 4, 2015 by jptan2012

I have always believe in the power of chanting mantras and reciting / reading sutras. When people get in touch with me asking for the Vajrapani Ruel and because they can’t afford it or its not available at the time of request, I always tell them to chant some mantras or recite some sutras because these are very powerful tools or rituals that can help us surpass our problems. In fact, regular readers of this blog will see some personal testimonies of readers who simply chanted some mantras and were able to get their wishes.

That is why I’m very happy to announce that my Guru Lama is coming to the Philippines early next year to do a two – day Sutra and Mantra retreat and one day Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual. What’s even better is that the retreat and the Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual are going to be absolutely free!

I can’t clearly express as to what are the benefits of chanting a mantra and reciting a sutra because the wonderful blessings that one can get from them if properly done is simply enormous. It has the power to heal the sick, turn bad luck into good luck, create some wealth and financial luck. If these things are done for our recently departed relatives, it may give them a chance to be reborn with a good life.

The Sutra and Mantra retreat is going to be for 2 days from 6:30AM to 2:30AM straight! It seems quite tiring, but the truth is it’s not and if one is in the middle of it you’ll feel that 8 hours is simply nothing. Nevertheless, we’ll have 5 minutes bathroom break every hour or every hour ninety minutes, depending on the mantra and sutra being chanted or recited. On the first two days, which is the Sutra and Mantra retreat, we will be chanting and reciting different mantras and sutra for 8 hours each day straight! Well…almost straight!

On the third day, my Guru Lama is going to conduct a Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual or Puja.

What is an empowerment ritual or puja?

An empowerment ritual or puja is a ritual that is headed by a certified Lama that invokes the power of a Buddha or Bodhisattva or Deity. This is to request blessings and protection from the Buddha or Bodhisattva or Deity being invocated. This kind of ritual is rarely done in the Philippines and one needs a highly ordained monk or lama to be able to do this. For this particular empowerment ritual, we are invocating Vajrapani Bodhisattva, to get to know more about Vajrapani Bodhisattva please read my post called – THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL AMULET IN THE BUDDHIST PANTHEON CALLED VAJRAPANI RUEL.

Vajrapani Bodhisattva is primarily a protective bodhisattva but as you see in the various testimonials of people who has requested for the Vajrapani Ruel, a lot of these involve other things which is other than simply protection. For you to know more about these miracles you read some of the stories you can find below.

I will announce the exact date and time and location of the Sutra and Mantra Retreat and the Vajrapani Empowerment Ritual once we have finalized the details but this is confirmed and will happen soon after Chinese New Year of 2016.

As mentioned these events are absolutely free of charge. A reader who has experienced a Vajrapani Ruel miracle has committed to sponsor the vegetarian lunch (although it is going to be served after the retreat which is after 2:30pm). The vegetarian lunch is going to be cooked by Buddhist nun and volunteers of the host temple. Please note that although this is free we encourage you to bring some fruits as an offering to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. We will also encourage you to give a Sangha Offering, which is customary for every Buddhist ritual. A Sangha Offering is done by giving you a red envelope and you can put any amount inside the envelope, which you will then offer on the altar. The money inside can be as low as twenty – five centavos and nobody will know the amount that you will put because it will be then passed on to the host temple without being opened. We do this because the host temple will have some expenses by hosting us that goes to electricity, water, incense, and manpower.

As early as now I will also like to say that during these events no late comers will be allowed to join, and we will start promptly using the Philippine Standard Time as our official time. Should you feel that the even is taxing and tedious we suggest you leave during one of the bathroom breaks, but once you leave you will not be allowed to enter again. This is because in events like this we have to be very conscious that you don’t disturb the presiding lama and the participant. Phones are also going to be collected for safekeeping. No phones and/or any gadgets are allowed inside the ceremony hall to preserve the solemnity of the hall and the retreat or ritual.

I’m sure a lot of you will be asking as to what are the Sutras and Mantras that we are going to recite and chant. Please see the list below in no particular order.

For the Sutras:

  1. Medicine Buddha Sutra
  2. The Buddha Speaks of Amitabha Sutra

You will be ask to bring your Vajrapani Ruel so that my Guru Lama can further empower it. This is also a great opportunity for those who requested the Vajrapani Ruel to meet other readers who requested it also.

On top of it, according to my Guru Lama everybody who attends will be given a Four Dharmakaya Relic Mantra or Lama Atisha Amulet. You can also bring your Buddhist pendants or amulets for additional blessings of Guru Lama.

Changes in the Blog; Vajrapani Ruel Stories; Myth Busters; Buddhist Gods; Upcoming Books

Published Nobyembre 2, 2015 by jptan2012

Because of my busy schedule there would be some delay, but I hope that the changes in this blog will be implemented by December or before the Western year ends. One of the change here is to help implement more transparency.

I’m happy to announce though that the book version of this blog, which will have a different title, but will contain primarily the collection of my blog posts plus a few more article is still on track. My Malaysian client, turned reader, who is publishing the said book wants to have a section on the Vajrapani Ruel Stories, the difference is that the articles will be written using the voice of the reader or person who experienced the miracle (at least that’s the plan) and several of them has agreed that they be identified on the book. Meaning it will have their full names and pictures. I’m so excited about this and really happy that some of them have agreed to be named a pictured for the book. As most of my readers know that I value my reader’s privacy, even if by putting their name and picture on the blog, will earn me more credibility and greater number of readers, however, I value more the privacy and friendship of my readers more than anything else, something that my detractors has used against me. However, with the coming book several of them has agreed to come out because they simply want to share the wonderful blessings that they got out of what they also firmly believe as one of the most powerful amulet in the Buddhist pantheon which is the Vajrapani Ruel. Target release date of the book is around Chinese New Year of 2016.

My Malaysian publisher is also suggesting that we come up with a book simply about the Myth Busters and different Buddhist Gods. I’m now working on the book about the different Buddhist Gods but for the Myth Busters, I would like to ask your help. Hope you can send some of your myths via email and I will try to answer them and hopefully I’ll have enough to come up with a small book.

Mistakes and Detractors Are Essential to Give Us A Lesson and Make Us Better! Plus An Announcement!

Published Oktubre 4, 2015 by jptan2012

This blog was started on the last month of 2011 and boy it has been a journey. I never thought that this blog would reach the scale of readership it has reached. And while I’m happy, I’m sad to say that in the process I did made some mistakes. A lot of mistakes!

I’m slowly but surely trying to correct all those mistakes, but the sad thing is sometimes people jump on the bandwagon of negativity. There are people who seriously have some reason to be hurt with some of the things that I have written or unintentionally did to them, but there are also those who wanted to jump on the negativity for no other reason than that they’re just happy to ride the boat so to speak. Still there are a few who refuse to see the truth because it is so much easier to see the negative.

But these things when it happens to us should serve as a lesson and make us do better.

I continue to commit to sincerely write about the things I believe in. Right the wrong that I may have done and continue to learn from my mistakes and from my detractors.

However, it is so heartwarming to continue to receive the support of those I have encountered in the course of running this blog and also those who continue to believe in seeing the positive. I treasure your trust, as much as I also treasure the lessons I learned from those who may have stop believing because of my unintentional mistakes.

So it is that I announce now that there is going to be some changes on this blog that is set to happen in the next month or two. This is in line with my quest to be more transparent and to be more positive and correct my mistakes. Second, my client (for my business who knows that I blog and do Feng Shui) in Malaysia has committed to publish a book, which is a collection of my articles here with some additional articles and will include a section on the Vajrapani Ruel stories. This client although he haven’t experienced any astounding miracle from the Vajrapani Ruel, believes that the Vajrapani Ruel has made his life so much easier. This happened gradually. And so he wanted to publish a book that is a collection of my articles and he specifically wants a section on the Vajrapani Ruel stories. The difference is we would be requesting some of the readers who experienced these miracles to come out and be identified in the book. So far 6 of them has agreed. We hope to release the said book by Chinese New Year next year.
