Just Sharing…WordPress.com’s Report About ‘Sana Ako Si Ricky Lee!’

Published Enero 2, 2013 by jptan2012

I think this might be a little ego-centric but I’m just happy about Word Press’ report about my blog. I have more readers than the number of people living in a small country in Europe. I know my blog is not the most read blog but I’m happy to know that it reaches a lot of people.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

About 55,000 tourists visit Liechtenstein every year. This blog was viewed about 420,000 times in 2012. If it were Liechtenstein, it would take about 8 years for that many people to see it. Your blog had more visits than a small country in Europe!

Pablo, 2012’s Strongest Philippine Typhoon!

Typhoon Pablo has an international name of Bopha.

Typhoon Pablo has an international name of Bopha.

It seems like yesterday when the Philippines was hit by Sendong, where a lot of people died, families were broken, and dreams shattered. That happened a month before Christmas. Now, the same people who were affected by Sendong will have to go through the ordeal of facing Pablo.

Pablo, according to the US experts is a Category 5 Typhoon, but the limitations of Philippine Typhoon Signal guidelines only categorized it up to Signal No. 3. Nevertheless, authorities I believe has given ample warning about the damage that Pablo can deliver.

Most of us won’t be able to physically do anything about it. However, I would like to urge everybody to pray for those who are affected or going to be severely affected by Pablo. It doesn’t matter whether we have the same belief just say a prayer to your God.

For Buddhists, or for those who believes in chanting a mantra, urge you to chant a mantra for those who will have to go through Typhoon Pablo’s wrath.

I suggest to say the Mantra of the Bodhisattva of Compassion – OM MANI PADME HUM, and the Mantra of Medicine Buddha – TADYATHA OM BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZYE MAHA BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZYE RADZA SAMUGATE SOHA. Chant it as many times as you can and dedicate it to the typhoon victims. If you’re busy 108 times or one full mala will do.

It was just announced that Typhoon Pablo is the strongest typhoon to hit Mindanao in two decades. Read more about it by clicking here.

Good News and Dedicated Good People Still Exist…

Published Disyembre 2, 2012 by jptan2012

I’d like to keep this post short and sweet and most of all straight to the point. With all the bad things happening in our world, with all the kidnappings, hold-ups, robbery, rape, abuse going on around it’s easy to forget that good things and good dedicated people still exist.

This past few days, there are a lot of these stories dominated the web. Allow me to share some of them here.

First, is the story of a man in quest of getting a ‘no’ from the favor or request that he asks for. However, on his 3rd attempt he failed miserably in getting a no because a Krispy Kreme staff made sure that she goes out of her way to give him what he wants. Read the story here.

The next story is plain and simple heart warming. It’s about tough man, a policeman doing one of the most heartwarming deed and selfless act one can do. Read about his story here.2911_police_boots_sp.ashx

Lastly, while it’s not about a selfless act, it’s about how it’s easy for us to give up on doing something, but the story shows that with perseverance and friendship one can go beyond expectations. Read it here.

Pacquiao vs. Bradley: A Controversial Win and A Lesson in Humility

Published Hunyo 11, 2012 by jptan2012

I’m not here to write whether the expert and crowd favorite Manny Pacquiao really won over the relatively unknown to Filipino, Timothy Bradley Jr., neither will I jump in and join the cry of rigging, and/or who really had the most number of hits, but I can honestly say, that Bradley’s winning over Pacquiao, albeit controversial, is really a lesson in humility.

Before anything else, I’m not anti-Pacquiao, but neither am I fan. As a Taoist – Buddhist, I don’t believe and follow any violent sport like boxing, which intentionally and literally hurts a person for the other to win. I hope that me fellow Filipinos won’t think that I’m being anti-Filipino by posting this post, but I believe that there is something that we all have to learn from the fight and the eventual loss of Pacquiao.

Before anything else, I would like to admit that this is something that didn’t follow the whole Pacquiao – Bradley craze right when it started, but what I have seen so far is that Bradley has always maintained a humble stance and Pacquiao or his camp has always maintained a slightly confident, if not over-confident, stance. This may be because Bradley is the underdog, and Pacquiao is the ‘people’s champ’ and international favorite, but is this enough for one to be somewhat boastful and over confident.

In interviews, you’ll always see that Pacquiao and or his camp has downplayed Timothy Bradley’s capability, while Bradley always focuses on his own training rather than criticizing the other camp.

A few days before the fight, Bradley, to indicate how hard he was working for this fight, said that his training has been like hell. Pacquiao, on the other hand, said that his training has been like heaven. It was said in such a manner that would lead one to believe that it’s just a routine training for him and that he is quite enjoying and at ‘home’ with that kind of training.

On the day of the actual fight, those who have pay – per – view will be able to attest that Pacquiao made everybody wait until he was ready to come out for the fight. When I say everybody, I’m not just referring to his staff but also Bradley, Bradley’s camp, the judges, the people who in the arena, the people who paid pay-per-view to watch the fight. He made them wait for thirty minutes…the reason? He was still watching the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics Eastern Playoff!

When interviewed about waiting for Pacquiao, Bradley humbly said that it’s okay and that they’ll wait and just be ready once Pacquiao comes out. They even added that they don’t mind waiting for Pacquiao even if it takes him 2 hours before he comes out.

I will not attempt to judge both of their characters base on this one incident, but, at that very moment, one can see the difference in attitude. One is humble, the other proud. At the end of the game, the other remained humble, the other though humbled, continued to make ‘proud’ remarks.

We may be a winner, but that doesn’t give us the right to have a bad attitude.

I just lighted some incense in a Chinese Buddhist temple to thank the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Deities, and Immortals for the year of the Metal Rabbit, also to pay homage and request for protection and blessing for the year of the Water Dragon.
But, technically, its not yet the year of the Water Dragon, not until 3:39PM later. Until then its still the year of the Metal Rabbit.

And if you believe in Feng Shui please do read the following posts:

Biktima ni Sendong

Published Enero 16, 2012 by jptan2012

Just this morning, while I was reading online news I came across a Yahoo! article that talks about how a couple continue to search for their 3 children. How will they mourn for them, if there’s no body to confirm that indeed they died sa trahedya na dulot ni Sendong? Should they mourn for them already? This reminded me of a true story. Because of the Tsunami that was triggered by the Indonesian earthquake (2004 o 2006 ba yun? can’t really remember.) nawala ang isang batang babae sa mga magulang niya. Until they were reunited again last 2011.

D-Day for Chief Justice Renato Corona

Published Enero 16, 2012 by jptan2012

I’m feeling ambivalent towards the impeachment trial of Renato Corona. Naniniwala ako na justice should be served no matter who the are the personalities that are involved. Pero on the other hand, impeaching a Chief Justice, at least for me, might create judicial crisis.

This is the very first impeachment trial of a chief justice in our country and I hope hindi siya pagmulan ng mas matinding crisis.

I will not pretend that I comprehend everything that has been thrown against Chief Justice Renato Corona, pero to be honest, base sa mga nababasa ko sa dyaryo, napapanood at naririnig sa news sa TV at radyo, there is really grounds to ‘discipline’ the Chief Justice. I’m just not sure whether an impeachment is the right course to do it. Pero, on the other hand, kung hindi impeachment ano? Given that calls for him to resign has not been heeded.

From a perspective of an ordinary citizen, dapat naman sa umpisa’t umpisa pa lang ay hindi na tinanggap ni Renato Corona ang position na pagiging Chief Justice. Considering he was appointed by an outgoing president who belongs to pa party which will be considered as minority in the new administration. Furthermore, the said party’s presidential candidate also didn’t make it as president. Add to the ‘manipulation’ is the fact, that it was one of the most tone downed oath taking.

Pero add to that pa that even before he became Chief Justice ay wala siya ni isang decision that went against GMA. Plus as Chief Justice parang ang dami niyang hinarang na desisyon that will negatively affect the former president’s position or of her ‘people’.

If the question is whether he deserves to be impeach, my answer to that is yes. I’m just saying na sana may ibang paraan pa.
