Is there truth to this?
I really don’t know where this belief started but I noticed that the only people who ask me about this are people who are from the US and Europe, mostly Europe. There is no truth to this, and as I said I really don’t know where this belief started but I can only theorized as to how this belief started.
There is a Chinese and Feng Shui belief that even before you enter a room, once the door is open, your chi enters it first. This is the explanation why sometimes people start to feel your presence even if their back is the one facing the door. It is because the mere intention of entering a room, your chi or consciousness will have traveled ahead of you or at the very least expanded to the said room.
When it comes to elevators, the same theory applies. Once your thought has made the decision to take the elevator, your chi or consciousness will have expanded or traveled ahead of you. I think, and I’m just making a presumption here, some Feng Shui believe heard this, and shared it with somebody, and then as it get transmitted, consciousness or chi became luck. And if you don’t enter the elevator or lift they would think that the elevator has eaten your luck.
Again this is not true, because once you have made the decision not to go through, your consciousness would have simply shrink bank to its normal size or it would have simply go back to you.
